Re: Changing IP address on home machines

Residential Comcast uses a dynamic IP, it changes all the time. Pushing the reset button on your modem should force a new one. Why do you think it needs to be changed?

No, it doesn't. They use DHCP, which will, in general, keep reassigning you the same IP address you had previously. I had the same IP address for over four years. I've had my current address for about a year and a half.

Pushing the reset button on your modem should force a new one.

That's not much more likely to get you a new address than just sitting around hoping that you'll get a new one.

Why do you think it needs to be changed?

That's a good question. It can be done, usually with just a few clicks, but I like to know the reason before I explain how to do it.

We are both kind of right. Without posting all the technical gibberish, a DHCP host may or may not release an IP address.

You are mainly incorrect about the way the CC system works Barbie. And it isn't "technical gibberish", it's totallly relevant.....

CC's DHCP IP leases are what is known as being *sticky* dynamic.

I am not argueing the point because I don't really know. I googled DHCP and found that IP addresses are held and released as needed.I was just trying to learn how a "sticky" DHCP is different than a Static IP?

Re: Changing IP address on home machines

Could you explain the 'few clicks' to me? My business, because the main form of advertising is via Craigslist, isn't doing well after getting softblocked on CL. We are a very small company, and though CL considers our ads 'spam,' there are bigger companies doing it more often and more intensely.

I've spoken to Comcast support on several occasions, but the login to the modem just flat out does not work (10.1.10.1, cusadmin, highspeed), and I'm kind of at a loss. I've tried everything I could think of.

I got banned from a forum group for complaining that their tech support failed miserably at helping folks solve certain problems.

that's all -

need more information ?

Many thanks -
