If I buy a combination wireless router and backup from Apple, can I just connect it to my COMCAST internet or do I have to contact COMCAST?

And what is the exact make and model number of the device you now have that supplies the "Comcast internet" ? Is it a plain cable modem or a combo gateway device ?
