It will show up only if your modem is DOCSIS 3.0. Mine is not but comcast tech's did not tell me this. So check your modem that it is on the list of devices that can function at the new speed.

Whoh...I did the hardwire test (sans modem) and am averaging 99 mbps (I peaked at 113!). That's FAST! However, I'm still only getting around 30 mbps with wifi, which is what I got BEFORE the upgrade. What's the point of upgrading if it doesn't improve speed via wifi? Do I need a new router that works better with a DOCSIS 3.0 modem (my current router is a CISCO Dual Band WRT610N)...or is this just the way it is? I use my laptop, Roku and XBox often, so going back and forth between the router and hardwiring just for my desktop seems tedious unless I'm downloading a rather large file.
Any suggestions?

I just power cycled my Zoom modem and it seems that I got both a new config file and a firmware update (5.5.4.9J)
My speedtest results (connecting my pc directly to the modem) are as follows:
1. dslreports.com
2. Comcast Speed test
3. ShaperProbe
DiffProbe release. January 2012.
Shaper Detection Module.
Connected to server 38.107.216.34.
Estimating capacity:
Upstream: 2229 Kbps.
Downstream: 148797 Kbps.
The measurement will last for about 4.0 minutes. Please wait.
Checking for traffic shapers:
Upstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 2165 Kbps.
Downstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 46778 Kbps.

Yes i have powered down the modem.

@pac1961
Ok so you have a D3 modem, are you connecting direct to the computer by ethernet? Try that, you will need to powercycle the modem again.

With Blast! in a D3 area it should be around 26/4......FWIW, the downstream result is closer to 16/2 which is indeed now the Performance speed tier in most areas. CC has never offered a tier that had / has 15Mbps down. As a matter of fact, that 16/2 is actually the speeds of the original / old Blast tier. Also Blast is 25/4 in not yet upgraded to 50/10 areas
I have yet to see anyone from Comcast confirm a 16/2 Performance tier, I have however seen many confirmations of the 15/2 Performance tier, including this one I received from Comcast just last year.

It's really not worth quibbling about, Performance is provisioned just below 16 down, Blast! 25 down is usually provisioned just over....![]()
And it's way off topic!

Thank you for posting that documentation. It's still "marketing MUMBO JUMBO" at its worst with which they are famous (or should I say infamous) for....

I absolutely agree with you. When someone with as much experience as you have gets confused by their speed tiers it draws the point home even more.
It's no wonder that someone who consistantly sees 20 - 25 Mbps on speed tests feel they are on the Blast! tier when they actually have the Performance tier, or someone orders HSI and is told or reads online that their speed is 20Mbps download and is dismayed to find they really only have 12 - 15 Mbps sustained speed.

And lets not forget that since its inception, their "Powerboost" feature has served to further *muddy the waters*...

reboot did mine too

I checked with comcast here in Memphis. Turns out they do have the ability to give me the increase in speed (50mbs or 105mbs), but it comes at an additional cost. why is this increase being offered in some areas at no additional cost while others will have to pay for it. I spend waaaaaaaaaaay to much money with Comcast already. I really wish they had some real competiton in. i would be one of the first to jump ship.

I pretty sure the upgrade your talking about will be rolled out to the whole country soon its just that it started in the north east first be patient in time we will all get it.

Ok . Been very patient. No increase as of today..

I am still at my speed at extreme 50.... Power cycled everything, even disconnected my network and went straight thru the modem.
Now, I am going to probably downgrade the service to blast.. Why pay more for nothing??

That would depend on which speed tier you are subscibed to ?

I was supposed to have the Blast speed.

Unfortunately their quoted speeds are pretty vague. You seem to be getting around 18/2 sustained. Blast can be 16/2, 20/2, 20/4, 25/4, or 50/10 depending on your particular area and whether or not it has been upgraded. You would have to call in to question / confirm what it is in your particular market area.

Any word on when we can expect to see those speeds in the south? Florida, perhaps?
Hardwired, I top out at 36/7.

I am following up on my orignal post since I started this thread back in July. I finally got my account setup correctly so that I am getting the free doubled internet speeds for my Blast tier service. I had to visit my local comcast store to get them to update my account. I waited two days as instructed but my speeds were still not right. I had to contact the internet deparment with comcast and they corrected my account since it now showed that I was a Blast customer. How frustrating that comcast would not originally fix my account to the Blast tier even though I was a HD Preferred Plus XF triple play customer.
Anyway, below are my results for testing my speeds.
DiffProbe release. January 2012. Build 1008. Shaper Detection Module.

Downstream: No shaper detected. Median received rate: 52378 Kbps.

I just went through this same process myself, upgrading from Performance (which had given me 20/4) to Blast (50/10 in my area).
For what it's worth, I've found interacting with @comcastcares and the other Comcast people on Twitter is the best way to get good service. @ComcastWill was able to explain my upgrade options, tell me a good modem to purchase to replace the outdated Scientific Atlanta I was renting, and get my account setup - in about 10 minutes. Very technically knowledgeable and able to access and modify my account.

The reason why your speed has not changed is because speedtest.net does not work and will give you the same results over and over again (I too had an amazing 25 mb download and about 4 upload). The reason is flash should not be used to test speed. It drops bad data, only showing positive data. I use testmy.net - it uses your browser to test your speed and is very accurate.
Easy to test your upload and compare to testmy.net...get out your watch and upload a large file through ftp. My results were the same (+/- a few kb) comparing to testmy.net which proved I was getting pretty good results. So while my download speed was about 6MB, the flash based test still showed 25MB. When the tech came out and replaced my modem with a UBEE 3.0 - my speed then shot up to 24MB dowload speeds using testmy.net. The flash based test showed still the same results as before.

Comcast refused to provide me with a Docsis 3 modem, claiming my old Arris modem will do the job for Blast Speeds. They also lied to both the FCC and Consumer Protection Agency and sent me a bill for over $200.00 claiming they forgot to bill me for cable service I did not have in the month of July. Sent a letter to Brian Roberts, CEO of Comcast who ignored my complaint. My suggestion to individuals who have encountered FRAUD by Comcast, is to get off the Comcast Plantation and seek better providers that are out there.
