Frequent connection problems

This seems like a very unusual problem I'm having so I will try to explain in detail, and see if anyone else has this problem or if I need to dig farther.

First of all, I am using a Mac, which means I look at all my internet troubles thru 'Network Diagnostics'. What tends to happen is, as I am browsing the internet, it suddenly stops working. When I look at my modem, none of the lights are turned off and it appears to be working like normal, but my internet and server say 'failed' in Diagnostics.

Now, I have had Comcast tech people come to the house twice, each time to check the phone connection and signal (saying the signal was perfectly fine) as well as changing the modem each time (current one is called a Touchstone Telephony Modem) but the problems persist to where sometimes the connection goes off and on nearly every 5 minutes and will be disconnected anywhere from 30 seconds to hours. It becomes quite frustrating that there seems to be no fix and no direct solution.

I have considered the fact that it could be a cord that is not working or the modem, but seeing as how the phones and my cable go thru that modem and nothing but the internet stops working (although sometimes the phone is affected), as well as the phone signal from the box to the house being near perfect here, I can't really believe it's either of those. Currently, my solution for getting my signal back (even if sometimes briefly) is to disconnect everything from the modem but the power, and then hit its reset button.

This is a very frustrating situation, one I'm currently going thru just to keep the internet working to post this before giving up for the night! Hopefully someone has a solution because I am lost....

Re: Frequent connection problems

What do the modem's signal stats look like ? Try getting them here; http://192.168.100.1

Please post the *Downstream Power Level*, the *Upstream Power Level*, and the *SNR* (Signal to Noise Ratio) numbers.
