From Log report of SB5120

The following has been showing up in my logs for a number of days now:

2008-10-22 17:17:30 4-Error   DIST: Management Message with unidentified Version->4 - Discard message

Anyone have any idea what it means..

Mine is doing it, too. It seems to be a side effect of recent upgrades to support DOCSIS 3 and higher speeds. It doesn't seem to affect anything other than wasting log space.

Re: From Log report of SB5120

Thanks andyross, upgrades to the overall system, or to my particular modem??  At one time I seem to remember seeing DOCSIS 1.1  being mentioned in the log, but nothing lately with the 5120..

Re: From Log report of SB5120

It's a system-wide upgrade to support new DOCSIS 3 modems and faster speed tiers. The 5120 will never support more than DOCSIS 2. In fact, in many of the upgraded areas, they are sort-of using DOCSIS 2 by using a higher symbol-rate for the upstream.

Hopefully they will clear up what is causing that weird message, or update the firmware sometime. The 5120 has always been a bit hyper about logging more than necessary.
