Basic Internet Connectivity And Modem Help

I've been having major issues with my Xfinity internet account that Comcast has been out to resolve and so far they haven't been able to resolve. The problem is very inconsistent, but I'm hoping someone has encountered it. I've tried to diagnose it, but haven't had any luck pin-pointing the issue.

Essentially the system appears to be working great and then all of a sudden a web page will not load. Some times it gets so bad that I lose connection to my router. When the system starts running slow I try to go to speedtest.net to see what is going on. When I run it from my laptop I get 12mbps, but when I go to my desktop I get 21mbps. Then when I go back to my laptop it is usually back to 20mbps. I've actually seen the speed start off at 20mbps and drop down to 10mbps, and then back to 20. Last night was a horrible night and I couldn't get anything to load on my laptop so I went to the desktop and it did the exact same thing.

In the last 9 months Comcast has replaced my line outside and less than a month ago installed a splitter because the line voltage was too high. All of which haven't resolved my issues. The technician said I need to replace my modem because it is OLD, but yet he said they still sell it. I'm about ready to drop Comcast, but before I do I wanted to give this a try because this should be my best speed option for internet connection.

Here is my system setup. I'm using the Motarola SB5101 cable modem with a D-Link DIR-655 router running WPA Personal (WPA or WPA2) with a cypher type of TKIP and AES. I recently switched from WEP to WPA and that hasn't fixed the issue. I'm also using a Motarola VT2442 router for my Vonage service. I have the network setup from the SB5101 to my VT2442 and then out to my DIR-655. I have my desktop and my son's XBox hardwired into the router, and all of my other devices (2 Android phones, laptop, and iPad) access it wirelessly but never at the same time.

Since posting this thread, my connectivity issues have gotten much worse and I can barely do anythiung on my laptop and barely on my desktop.  HELP!!!!

Please post the *Downstream Power Level*, the *Upstream Power Level*, and the *SNR* (Signal to Noise Ratio) numbers.

In my logs I'm also seeing a date of 1970-01-01. Not sure what that means though. Here are my logs as you requested:

The upstream power is out of spec so they still haven't fixed your issue. That time / date stamp is what a modem defaults to when it can't talk to the T.O.D. (time of day) server to fetch the current time. This can serve to exemplify connection quality difficulties.

Getting the modem swapped for a test can't hurt.

I can tell you what most likely your problem is your up stream signal at 54 dbmv is to high and out of spec. This will cause bad connections and modem reboots. You said CC added a splitter to deal with a to high downstream signal well when you do that it does lower the down but brings up the upstream. If all your coax is in good shape and you only have the one splitter to your modem you need to book a tech to balance your signals.
