Motorola 6121 Modem Constant Reboots in Elk Grove CA

8 year old home with all internal wiring. No problems for last 8 years until last month.  Constant reboots of the modem.  Had a 6120 and bought a 6121 and still having the same issues.  Here are some stats:

Have you ever noticed the upstream power going higher in to the 50 dB range and/or the downstream power going higher than 10 dB ?

Yes. I made some changes after I posted this as I started to read some of the suggestions being offered in this forum. The coax was being split by a five way splitter. The downloads were in the 8's and the uploads were around 49, 50, and 51. I have since split the incoming coax with one split going straight to the modem and the other split to the five way. Now I am getting 11 down and 42 up. Since then I have not had one reboot. I am at work now, but will check to see if any reboots occurred during the day once I get home.

Hope things hold up for you now that there is more wiggle room in the upstream although the downstream may be too high now..

Looks like I had 4 reboots today.  Less than previous days though.  It appears that the signals are now back to where they were before I made the splitter change.  Not sure the splitter change did any good and that maybe the voltages are fluctuating between day and night.  I get conciderably more drops during the day than at night.

Alright it may be time for a tech visit now to investigate. If the premise facing tech/s can't find / fix any possible issue at your home then it is they who are responsible to escalate an issue to their line / maintenance dept. techs to investigate the neighborhood lines / infrastructure.

 

For reference you can call in to find out what your uSNR (upstream Signal to Noise Ratio figure is. It should be at least 30 dB, and higher is better. There may be noise ingress in the upstream /return channel/s only.
