'New' economy Internet Service speed

Good morning,

For the record I am using a Compaq Presario AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3300+, 2411MHz/1.93 GBs RAM, running Windows Xp Home, SP3., with IE8.

Yesterday I received an email from ComCast saying my Download speed for my Economy Internet Service had been increased from 1 Mbs to 1.5 Mbs.  So I did the 'Power Cycle' on my modem  and then tested at a few sites and it did seem to get better download speeds.

However, I notice that when I check my 'Local Area Connection' icon on my taskbar it still reads 100 Mbs for speed.  Shouldn't it read 150 Mbs?

Thanks and regards,

That's the ethernet speed negotiation between your computer and the device that is directly connected to it (modem, router, whatever you have), and it has nothing to do with CC's speeds.

However if your REALLY unsure about your speed of service (as stated by the Federal Communications Company ...Its something we ALL need to worry about now a days). I found a nifty little site that lets you test your Internet Connection Speed for free....maybe this will help you and some others out there!

Re: 'New' economy Internet Service speed

Would some one tell me about the Speed please.

I ran the comcast speed test this morning, it showed:

PING : 9 ms, Download speed 1.44 Mbps and Upload speed : 0.37Mbps

Is this the normal speeds for Economy Service?

Sometimes it was too slow ... ( I think when my neighbor turn on his computer)....

That sounds about right. But, you should look at your bill to see what you are actually supposed to be capped at.

Understand, Your speed is a Cap or Upper limit of speed available to you.  There is no guarantee you will actually attain that speed.  Your actual speed will depend on your quipment and the congestion on the Local network, regional netwrok and internet backbone.
