Changed the modem from a Thompson dcm425c docsis2 to an arris wbm760a docsis3 one. No big jump in speed, comcast tech support is useless. Have solid green lights except blinking green link light. Speed before was 23-24 Mbps download 4 Mbps upload now 24-25 Mbps down 4-5 Mbps up. arris status report lists upstream channel type as docsis2.0 and mixed. Downstream lists 4 channels. Best setup is thru the router: linksys E4200. Connecting a computer directly to the arris results in an orange flashing link light and no internet service. Speed test results are about the same on wifi or connected to the router by a wire. What needs to be corrected to get the increase in speed that was expected?

Just changing to a DOCSIS 3 capable modem won't guarantee a speed increase. Which speedtier are you subscribed to ? You need to be in the Northeast area where the "doubling" of the Blast and the Extreme speed tiers is occuring if that is "the increase" you are talking about.

I get the Blast service, located in New Jersey. I have confirmed with Comcast that I am eligible for the faster service.

I am also from NJ ( Monmouth County ) -- I called Comast a couple days back and was told I needed DOCSISS 3.0 modem --- wnet to Eatontown and got one and no change in speed. Called COCAST back and they are sedning a technician this a.m. to investigate / rectify.

Original poster. Try depressing and holding in the recessed reset button on the rear of the Arris. You'll need something like a bent paper clip or a pen tip. Depress and hold it in until you see the front panel indicator lights begin to cycle, then release. Now give it the time it needs to re-sync and check again. This can sometimes help pull the new config if it is actually present on the local system.
Also, you need to use this button each and every time that you make as change of the device that is being directly connected to it in order to obtain internet connectivity.

its up to 30.. not always 30.
you are already getting pretty fast .. another 5 - 10 mb you arent going to notice anything different.
its not going to load that webpage any faster, not going to send that e-mail any quicker.
Remember most sites throttle users anyways. you can only connect as fast as the website, server, etc lets you.
your service is fine at around 25... also when you try to plug directly into modem you have to unplug it every time with a new device.

The 4 downstreams you know its a docsis 3. the docsis 2 modems wont show 4 downstream channels.

Disagree. On real life file transfers this is technically undeniably faster..

This is true !!

Can't really understand that logic.. Shouldn't a person get all that they pay for ?
also when you try to plug directly into modem you have to unplug it every time with a new device.
Already said that..

I have to disagree on the need to reset modem every time you switch it from the router to computer, when I unplug the router and hook directly into my laptop it reconnects just fine without even rebooting the modem. Maybe mine is configured differently? This actually has me curious because they always say you need to reboot your modem anytime you are having connection issues and I have yet to solve any issues which were always on comcast end by rebooting the modem, maybe the arris wbm760 is just a really good modem I'm not sure.

maybe you mistook what I was trying to say... just because it's slighty under 30 Mbps on a speedtest site, doesnt mean anything is wrong with the service.
there are soo many speed test sites with soo many hosts that all show different results.
The fact that he is showing 25 mbps probably means the service is fine.

Must be a quirk or a MIRACLE. You are the exception and not the rule. Have you cloned the MAC address of that machine in to the router ?

Nope never had to clone the mac, now I'm not sure if this changes things but I own my modem.

Hi, just wondering what the fix was after your visit from the Comcast Tech? I'm in the Baltimore area and have called several times because I'm still getting 25mb/5mb. They say I should be getting 50mb/10mb and have setup an appt for Tuesday 8/7 1-3pm. The last lady I talked to in the White Marsh office said she saw one other user with the same issue as mine and they too have a tech appt waiting. She also said a 'direct line' may be needed for the cable modem. I'm hoping this is not true as I live in a condo building and each unit only has one incoming RG6 cable. In the past I've received speeds as high as 32mb/9mb so I don't think its the cabling nor my Motorola SB6120. But she advise I should upgrade to the SMCV3GNV wireless gateway that the tech will bring out. So Just trying to see if anyone has had a fix for this yet.

Technician arrived and said there was nothing he could do --- the admin folks need to make any changes to cable config file remotely. I will be calling billing folks sometime today but there seems to be a lot of confusion about the speed ratings for the respective offerings - Performance, Blast !, and Ultra ( which is what I have and was disco'd last year ).
I was told Blast ! is a 25 / 5 offering today yet the web site I was looking at 2+ years ago and the sales agent I spoke with said 50 mbs download speeds when I signed up for the Premier triple play bundle. Then I found the Ulra designation on my bill and I think this is what may be preventing me from getting the increase.
I am calling billling today to see about changing to Extreme 50 or 105 at no extra charge seeing as I may have been duped into the wrong perf level --- will report back how I make out ....
