Serious Service Problems: Arlington, VA

As many of the people in CA are reporting, I (and my neighbors) are experiencing huge problems in Arlington, VA. This has been happening since Thursday.

www.cnn.com and other sites will not load. Icons and graphics from other popular websites will not load. Plus, speeds are slow.

I tried accessing these websites through my wireless PDA on my home network, as well as my neighbors comcast network. The problem continued meaning it's not my PC or router configuration. Additionally, I took me PDA to a friends house with DSL, and it worked just fine. Definitely a local Comcast problem.

My guess is that Comcast is trying to update their web filters or anti-spyware software, and ended up disabling any site with an ad-server or e-commerce setup.

Please post here if you are in the area and experiencing similar problems.

Re: Serious Service Problems: Arlington, VA

Anon1318694,

Comcast is not blocking any ad-server or e-commerce site. When trying here in Philly, the sites cnn.com and ebay.com are loading correctly. Also, customers in the CA area are experiencing issues with overloaded routers on the Comcast network that our engineers are working to resolve - this is not in any way related to Comcast trying to block ad-servers.

But if you are experiencing slow speeds and some sites are not loading fully, you should start by visiting the Connection forum here and follow the suggestions in this thread to see if there is a signal issue affecting your Comcast connection. If the suggestions do not resolve the issue, you may want to set up a technician visit to try and identify/resolve the issue.

Re: Serious Service Problems: Arlington, VA

Still having the same problem. The comcast website is about the only webpage that loads correctly. CNN still does not load at all, and most others load slowly, but have certain graphics appear as dead links. I've noticed that if the graphic is being hosted from a server other than the website that is currently being loaded, the graphic will not load.

How about treat it as a slow connection and read the post at the top of the forum:

Re: Serious Service Problems: Arlington, VA

Immediately after posting the above, I was running some more tracert's and doing some line quality tests over at dslreports.com, when I got totally disconnected (network icon on taskbar got the red x). the connection came back after about 20 seconds, but then dropped out again (red x again) about 2 minutes later. I'm back up now.

Tracert's immediately following being back up gave me the following:

Re: Serious Service Problems: Arlington, VA

The only thing that stands out to me is the fairly high
Downstream: 14.4 dBmV.

If you use the old spec of +15/-15 you are very close.
Newer spec at +10/-10 you are way over.

Call Comcast?
