Basic Internet Connectivity And Modem Help

I am using windows 7.  I'm having trouble getting videos to play.  If I'm in Youtube the video plays about 2 seconds then stops for downloading,  Then plays 2 more seconds, etc.  Same with any videos from any website.  This started happening about a week ago.  McAfee shows no problems.  I tried resetting to a month ago but still no luck.  HELP !!

Did you test your download speed at speedtest.net or speedtest.comcast.net when you are having slow downloads .They can give you a baseline of how well your computer is communicating with the sites .We were having slow downloads and checking speedtest.net showed we were only getting <1mbps speed. We had two service techs come here and they checked our system and said the problem was with comcast and not our equipment . I showed the techs the speed record logs at speedtest.net and they could clearly see there was a problem . Comcast checked our underground cable (22 years old) and replaced it two days ago . That helped alot with the speed and got rid of our TV pixcels .Also I moved our gateway to another part of the house and now we are downloading at 25mbps speed and upload speed at 4.25 mbps . We also have Windows 7 home premium and IE9 on a two month old Dell laptop .The gateway is a Arris TG852 model with the voice built in .

I ran speedtest.net and got 18.77Mbps download speed and 4.33 Mbps upload speed.

Those speeds are good ones . It would be interesting to see what they are when you are downloading a video . Do you use disk cleanup and disk defragmenter in the windows 7 . Go to start type letter d in the search window and click on them to run . I do ours all the time , it will save space on your hard drive and help it to run faster .

I ran the disc cleanup but that didn't help.  So I checked the Dell tech support site.  I was directed to IOLO to fix problems with my computer.  I ran the scan and found over 400 items that needed to be fixed.  So i spent 40 bucks for their product, had it installed and when all was said and done the you tube video download or any other videos did not get any better.  Still downloading a few seconds, wait, etc.  Did i just waste $40?  Or do I have a virus or what?  McAfee says my conmmputer is running fine.  What do you suggest?

I wanted to update you about my slow download problem.  I decided to think what advice has been given to me in the past.  AHA!! Reset your modem.  So I pressed the reset button for 15-20 seconds, Waited for the lights to turn green, turned on my computer and....everything works great again. I'm learning!
