Re: Turn off SMCD3GNV All-in-One WiFi?

[ Edited ]

When I used the number in the user guide referenced in the previous post (by xhen), the tech I got in touch with reported she did not have the ability to place my modem (SMCD3GNV) into bridge mode and that I would have to pay for the extended customer support in order to get this done. This was stated as the only option. I'm sure she believed that, but after paying for the support I read here (in other threads) that I could have had this done without paying. She was poorly informed of the options.

I ended up having to call up and pay for a recurring extended customer support service to have a "switch flipped" that should have been able to be done by standard tech support. I'm furious about that. I then called back ask for that recurring fee to be disabled and they couldn't find that I had subscribed to it earlier so I'm sure I will have to call back up in a couple of days to have the service removed.

I just moved into a Comcast area. Prior to now I was on Time Warner Cable. My Time Warner cable modem had the bridge mode option available right on the user accessible admin panel. I got in and changed it without any need to call TWC. I have heard horror stories about Comcast, but I've tried to keep an open mind as there are a lot of people who complain about everything. This is my first time dealing with Comcast and I must say that so far I am not impressed.

You don't need paid support to place the device in bridge mode call this number 1 800 363 2416 gateway support, it will take 5mins and there is no charge...

Yep the rep advised you poorly.

Great thread with some good info.

I tried bridging my Modem and Comcast did it w/o much hassel.  It worked great with my wireless router (linksys wrt54g v2 w/Tomato 1.28) for all of 30 minutes and then crapped out.  Tech reset it on his end crapped out again.

So I went to the local Best Buy and it had a Comcast center and purchased a Arris TM722G.  Got it set up and everything is great so far.  Speeds with teh SMC (POS) Wireless Gateway plugged directly in Maxed out at 25mbs down 4.3up.  The Ariris maxes at 36mbs down/6.3up.

That SMC All in one Gateway is really bad and should be discountinued.

Re: Turn off SMCD3GNV All-in-One WiFi?

Larry,

My SMCD3GNV is awful. Can I request another model? Does turning off the broadcast improve the wi-fi connection in play?

Thank you,
