What are Correcteds and Uncorrectables in the status screen on a TG 862

Given that the modem is new, and all the wires from my home to the pole are new, and some of the wires on the street were replaced, I am curious as to what these two things mean in the status, and if they might have anything to do with sporadic lost internet and phone connectivity.

Re: What are Correcteds and Uncorrectables in the status screen on a TG 862

Codewords have to do with forward error correction (FEC). Cable uses what is known as a Reed-Solomon (RS) encoder or interleaver to inject codewords or blocks of RS data which allow malformed packets to self-correct.

Your modem looks at every packet on its segment to see what packets/codewords are addressed to it. This is expressed by "Total Unerrored Codewords". For our purposes, it's pretty meaningless.

"Total Correctable Codewords" are the codewords that were addressed to your modem that were corrected.

And you guessed it -- "Total Uncorrectable Codewords" are the number of codewords that your modem couldn't correct.

The numbers are cumulative, so in order to use this as a diagnostic tool, you would first rest your modem, then watch for new errors.

Your upstream power level is borderline to being out of spec. Ever notice if it intermittently fluctuates higher in to the 51-52 dB range ?

Re: What are Correcteds and Uncorrectables in the status screen on a TG 862

I have been experiencing sporadic interruptions to connectivity of Internet, and occasionally phone. I have hit the status page almost immediately upon noticing but it's always just below 50. Short of tying to get comcast to replace every wire from my home to wherever it is, I just don't know what to do. seems that the connectivity problems cause drops - I saw where th time wouldn't update for a few days. We've had 2 tech visits and it improves for a day or so, but ... keeps getting messed up

Re: What are Correcteds and Uncorrectables in the status screen on a TG 862

Ok, so.... the symptoms are not recurring as frequently; far less... upstream is borderline, and I have to assume crossing the border sporadically.... heard a rumor this could be 4G related;  don't have any 4G equipment in my home, but neighbors do....
