My internet service seems to be getting slower and slower every week. This service is slow that I cannot use the internet while someone else in the house is using it on another computer. The upload and download speeds are 3 times slower than what I pay for and sometimes the internet doesn't work at all. Every time I've called about it they say "oh well we just need to boost your signal." Why would you have to do that in the first place? I pay a lot of money each month for a high rate and it only lasts for a few months at best.
I've heard that companies who don't have enough bandwidth for the ammount of people they provide for turn down the signals from older customers and give it to newer ones. They do that so the newer customers are tricked into keeping the with false hopes of a good service. Now I'm not saying this is what Comcast is doing, but it certainly seems plausable and I wouldn't put it past them.
This service is by far the worst I have ever recieved and if there was any other compreable option in my area, I would be gone from comcast as soon as possible. Sadly internet is a necessity in college or I wouldn't have any at all.

Hi
Can you please post the modem signals here to start with http://192.168.100.1/
There are also a couple of links on troubleshooting at the start of this forum that has more information that can be used to help troubleshoot your issue
Thanks

Downstream Value
Frequency 579000000 Hz
Signal To Noise Ratio 37.5 dB
Power Level -0.5 dBmV
Upstream Value
Channel ID 2
Frequency 23750000 Hz
Power 41.7 dBmV
I understand that these values are within normal ranges, but every download/upload test I've done from speedtest.net (which is the recomended site to use by Comcast in these forums), shows that downloads are around is 5.8mbps and Upload is around 2.6mbps with an avg ping of 41ms.

Well thats why I said that I'm not accusing Comcast of doing this, but after years of having the same "signal needs bossting" problem and knowing that my parents and a majority of other people I know have had the same problem makes me wonder.

Yup. Sig stats are stellar.

As for the speedtest.net recomendation, I thought it was a Comcast employe post (jason01) because it looked official, but I should have checked to make sure it was official before saying it was.

O/k fair enough. Some (but not the majority by no means) of the recomendations/data in those sticky topics is a bit out of date. The tool shows that you are getting approx. 18Mbps down and 2Mbps up sustained. Which speedtier are you actually subsribed to ? 16/2 Blast perhaps ?

I'm not sure. I can't find it anywhere in my account on Comcast's website.
18mbps really? Wow, thats a lot faster than it feels.
Though the number show that I have a decent connection. I'm having problems being dropped from xbox live and diffuiclty loading websites at an acceptable rate on any computer in our house on a consistent basis.

Look on your bill...it may tell you which tier of HSI you are subscribed to.
I assume you have a router...what make and model please? Comcast supplied or self purchased?
Also, do you use Wireless networking? If so, how is it secured?
