I had service hooked up originally in December2011 until February. The TV picture was ALWAYS having problems among other issues, billing related. (edit- I remember paying $100 to start service, then my first bill being $160)
Upon disconnect we were told a tech would be coming by to pickup the equipment, no one ever showed.
Few months later, got a call from comcast saying we need to bring equipment in, informed agent that my wife's car was in repair and I'm out of town at work- feel free to send the tech that no showed last time.
Tech shows up, we have a pile of cables, tv box and phone/internet modem ready for him.
Tech takes only the TV box and informs my wife that internet box was purchased by us and his work order only had the TV box. We followed up by calling comcast and was told by the agent at that time it was indeed purchased.
Mid-June call to reconnect service, agent gives me exactly what I asked for- which is a comcast first- internet only for $39.99. Tries to set up tech, I inform her I already own a modem and the cable is already hooked up, give her the numbers and it's working within 20 minutes. Pay first months bill immediately including a $5 transfer fee since I'm using my own modem.
Time goes by, Get first bill. For some reason my first payment wasn't a complete payment...I owe $5 more and there is a fee that should not be on there...a $7 lease fee on a modem that I was told by comcast several times that I own.
I called the complaint department, went around the whole conversation with her, with her neighboring agents laughing loudly in the background, she put in some sort of request form and said I'd be getting a phone call back. -Still have not recieved one.
This type of billing issues were why I quit comcast the first time and only came back because I was told by a few friends the clitches had been resolved and that Comcast was now better. I am not seeing any progress and tired of getting the run around.

I believe the $7 is cable modem fee, not for your router. If you plan to buy your own router, don't believe everything on the approve list. It is not accurate, I am still having issues with my cable modem.
I have been reading many posting, there are some users suggest this modem.

What? You can purchase a d3 modem, D3 gateway in all area's or a D3 eMTA in certain Markets markets. Rog's statement is far from true for many subscribers market area's.

I called comcast and that is what they told me. i meant D3 eMTA , i cannot get one here without a tech visit to bring it, but since my speeds without it are the same i did not do it.

rog286713 - regarding your statement is not true. You can buy any modem from the comcast modem approve list. I got the Motorola SB6121 from Amazon. But I have so many problems since I switch it to Motorola. I have been reading a lot of postings. There are some users recommend this modem.
