Being charged more than what i was sold- think comcast is scamming

[ Edited ]

On August 23, 2010, A comcast sales representative came to my door to "help lower my bill". I had a monthy charge of $158.00 for Cable and internet at the time. Natalie spent over an hour with me and we agreed to a package that included the following:

Cable digital prefered

2 HD DVR's

Sports package

HBO

STARZ

High speed internet

Comcast phone

ALL FOR $139 + $5 for the phone modem for a period of two years.

When i received my first bill. I see am am being charged far more than what was contracted. I was billed for installation (told it was free) Sports package (told it was free) two Dvr's (told they were free)

I have contacted my rep (Natalie) who told me that "The package I sold you was just a rumor, it does not exist" ARE YOU SERIOUS?

She said I need to work this out with customer service. I have called twice and now am being billed for the phone calls too! Now my bill is up to $ 245.00 a far cry from my $158

I am one step away from reporting comcast to the authorities. I have paperwork that shows what I was sold, and have been told i have a solid case. Anyone at Comcast care to help me first?

I'm reporting your issue to the Comcast forum admin. He will get the right people to help you. Since this is the beginning of the week-end it may be Monday before he responds.

In the meantime, you can speed things up by sending him an email. Include the phone number associated with the account, the service address, your name, your best contact number if different from your home phone,  and a link to this thread.  Do not post any personal info in the forum.

Send the email to

You should NEVER be charged for phone support.

It's inexcusable, not to mention illegal, to sell something that doesn't exist.

I failed to mention that I spoke with the sales agent's manager, who advised me that if I was unhappy, I could always cancel and go back to ATT. Excellent customer retention tactic. NOT

I feel for ya! Comcast is pretty shady at times, or they just have no idea what they're doing. Just got a price hike again after a bunch of BS. They're all about the money... for them!

I have been called by your billing specialist and we have arrived at a reasonable temporary fix. I still am waiting for the two year deal I was promised.

Re: Being charged more than what i was sold- think comcast is scamming

How about a bill for 746.00 or 747.00, that is my bill, and them holding me to a 12 month contract, with penalties if I cancel early. But guess what they took me off the promotion a month early,so what is the penalties for them when the shoe is on the other foot.Do I get a 30 day credit for that? let's see. bjc2010

Cecelia was able to credit the overcharges and we worked out a two year deal that is close to what was promised. My faith in comcast has been restored.

Re: Being charged more than what i was sold- think comcast is scamming

I too feel as if I were scammed. I started with a bill of $109 for phone, cable and internet. First I was told i would be receiving $100 just for switching to comcast. After the first year it would go up to $120. That ended up being $129. Now my third year has come and my bill for the same service it up to $186 and when i called to find out the problem i was told that was how much it is after you have had it the third year. I asked to be helped to lower it because we do not have that kind of money as my husband is retired and my job does not pay htat well.  She did a few things and got it down to $159 with a $10 charge for something and $5 for something else. I was so upset that nothing more could be done.  If something is not done to fix this problem I am going to report it to the BBB.  This is robery.

Re: Being charged more than what i was sold- think comcast is scamming

My complaint is similar, though my situation is a little different.  I've had Comcast internet with no other service (by preference) since April or so.  In July I got a call from Comcast "offerring" a plan for internet and TV for a little more.  If I stayed with the internet-only option, my monthly cost would almost DOUBLE:smileyangry:.  I went for the internet and TV plan.  Ooops!  The rep who called forgot to tell me that there would be a one-time charge of $ 55.00 added onto that.:smileycry:

So now the TV modem sits connected but unused. [shrug]

Re: Being charged more than what i was sold- think comcast is scamming

Tell me about it, I have been with Comcast since 06( triple play).  Last year we added movie channels, I was told my bill would be 180.00. My bill today is 279.00 with no change in service. I rent my modem from comcast that was orginally 4.00 and now I am being charged 7.00 for the same modem that I got when I opened my account. How far is that? When you ask why they say there are many things that it could  be...really.... no explination
MY BILL IS HIGHER EVERY MONTH! PLEASE REPORT THEM TO BBB AND ATT. GEN. WE NEED EVERYONE TO CALL AND COMPLAIN ABOUT THERE PRICE INCREASES WITH NO EXPLINATION OR REASON. THEY MAKE UP MISC> CHARGES!

STAND UP FOR ALL OF US AND CALL AND COMPLAIN!!!!

I HATE COMCAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comcast is a Scam. This is my first and very last experience with these people if they don't right their wrongs (which they won't). Online showed me that THEY OWED ME $19. This month I OWE THEM $297!!!??? Yeah, I will be calling the BBB tomorrow, if this isn't addressed by the time I get home.

Re: Being charged more than what i was sold- think comcast is scamming

There's a reason why comcast is known for it's horrible customer service. Try to get someone online to explain a bill to you. Oh, you were told you would be charged $50 less than you were charged. Well, there's nothing we can do about that. Then the chat goes dead because my COMCAST internet bleeped out. Really? Honestly? Total scam.

Re: Being charged more than what i was sold- think comcast is scamming

I can attach a print screen of my bill and “contract” as proof. My hope is I can help others avoid this wretched company.

Comcast – 9/30 – Called 1800-comcast. After turning down a couple salespeople, I spoke with a salesperson I liked. I specifically requested 25 Mb/s internet; NBA, NFL, and HBO; 1 HD receiver. I was informed they only offer 20 or 30 Mb/s internet, so I chose the 30 Mb/s. I was offered the HD receiver along with 2 free HD receivers to use on the two other HDTVs in the house. I was guaranteed the Sports Package free for 3 months and HBO free for 6 months. The price would be $79.99/month. Eventually the Sports Package would be an additional $6.99. The salesman never mentioned how much HBO would cost eventually.  He also mentioned it was a 2 year “contract” with a $100 security deposit that would be refunded after 3 months. I accepted, and was happy with, this offer.

Mike May 9/30 – talked about rescheduling installation date. Mike May was great at customer service. He rescheduled the installation date for the next day.

10/1 – Two Comcast men installed the modem and three HD receivers as expected. They said I should be able to activate HD on the receivers shortly after. I called 1800-comcast to activate HD, and they said I would have to wait for the work order to be completed, usually by end of business day. I called again around 7pm and they said I had no HD service. They said I had no HD service, but I could purchase HD service for my HD receivers. I asked them to look at my order. They said I have a payment of $99.99/month, no HD, Showtime for 6 months free, and the Sports Package free for 3 months. That couldn’t have been more wrong.

Chuck - 10/2 - Retention Services He said they have the best offers usually because they try to retain customers, but he could not help me because he could not match the offer I was given. He for some reason couldn’t look up what I was offered? He also could not find a supervisor for me. Told me Tasha, a supervisor, would call me within next 24 hrs.

Tasha – Supervisor – 10/3 (never called).

Sales - 10/4-I was told that a third party salesman sold me this offer. He said I should use salesman’s business card to contact him. I called Comcast, not a specific number. The man said my number was probably routed to the salesman. His manager agreed to email the third party and have them get in touch with me tomorrow. The next third party never returned call!

10/5 – no call

10/6 – no call

Sales - 10/7 - should get call back from Supervisor in 24hrs (never called).

Sue – Sales -10/8 I said I need manager. She said they have many managers there, what do I need? I said give me the highest up manager you can find. 14 mins later she said there was no one there that could talk to me. (really? So many managers yet none can talk to me) I said I’m not getting off the phone until she finds me someone because I’ve not received one returned phone call yet.

Joe – Manager Sales – 10/8 Sue put me on with Joe after 23 mins (total). Joe said it should be an easy problem to fix. He can see all the times I’ve called. He mentioned my name wasn’t even correctly entered on the account, and he would fix that. He could see I need a resolution. I made it clear that I was offered a contract, and someone should have the records of it. Neither of us had any record available. He put an email in with the subcontractor, and if he doesn’t get a call by 12p on 10/9 he will call them again. We should expect a phone call 10/9. If not he gave me a direct line734-254-1858 and said to ask for Joe.

(Called me) Mariah – 10/9 Said they couldn’t locate member who sold me package, and they can’t offer me the same package. They can give me the price (79.99), HBO free for 6 months, Sports package free for 3 months, and HD on one receiver but not on all three that the guy promised. I said okay.

Louisa – sales rep - 10/9 around 7pm Says we have price of 79.99, HBO and Showtime, Sports package, but no HD service. I will have to add HD service for an extra fee per month.

Bob – sales – told him I need a manager to speak with preferably Joe or Mariah. After gathering some information, Bob put Tia on the phone. At this point, I’m finally acting angry towards the employees but not disrespectful.

Tia – sales manager - 10/10 I am told I should get a call back Friday by Noon with a resolution b/c they have to talk to so many people since so many parties are involved in my case. I demanded everything I was promised originally –and more due to my extreme inconvenience. I stated that if I don’t get it I’m walking and going to post this experience in every forum I can and email it to every writer that has written about how bad Comcast is as a company. I also informed Joe (previous Supervisor) that I would do this. He never picked up his direct line the three times I called. I left three voicemails and never received a phone call back from him.

Ramona Lee? -Department ? – 10/12 I missed their call. They left a voicemail. The lady spoke too quickly and didn’t mention her department. She said she would call back again (never did), and if I had any issues I could call 1800-xfinity. However, without knowing her department, let alone her name with any certainty, 1800-xfinity would not be able to help me b/c most of them have no clue whom anyone else is.

10/13 – 10/17 Never received a phone call.

As of today, 10/17/2012, my first month’s Comcast bill is $132.77. I kid you not. Under details, it says the monthly payment is $99.99. That is wrong, and I don’t understand why there are additional fees on top of the monthly payment.

Needless to say, Comcast is one of the worst, poorly run companies on Earth – even throughout all of mankind’s history. They might rank just below Enron. Of the many wrong things about Comcast, three stand out to me as the most erroneous.

1)      They con millions of people out of millions of dollars via their shell-pricing scheme and offering customers less bang for their buck simply because telecommunications is monopolized. They trick many older, less technology-attuned people into paying more for less while erroneously charging them on their bills. They are today’s telecommunication Mafia.

2)      Their customer service is among the worst in recorded history. They don’t do anything they say they will. They lie to you every chance they get. They force all of their customers to call them regularly in order to fight to keep their “discounted” price. They will not inform you of additional costs to your account, and they will not back up their offers. Their “contracts” imprison customers while allowing the company to make whatever amendments they want. It’s hardly a contract at all. In fact, they call it an “agreement” on the papers, if they even send those out.

3)      They charge outrageous prices for internet that is outdated (by today’s technological capabilities), TV offers that are un-customizable, and service that is horrific. Their internet speeds may be among the best (even though, according to speedtest.net, I’m not even receiving the 30Mb/s I was guaranteed), but it has a 250Gb data cap; thus they allow you a faster means of using up your 250 Gb data cap. They charge for cable internet what they should be charging for fiber-optic internet. Their DVRs are store a poor amount of data, and their user interface for them is no better than the original TiVo interface about a decade ago.

My thread got shut down after an employee responded by saying they'd report my issue so someone could look into it. Wanna know how that worked out?

I spoke with a Melvin to cancel TV and complain about my slower internet (I was offered 30Mb/s per the salesman ^^), and he discovered that I wasn't even receiving the 30Mb/s internet that I was promised. The one thing I thought Comcast did right was actually an error. I was getting 12Mb/s internet the whole time.  That means every name I listed that actually spoke with me about the issue lied to me about me getting 30Mb/s. I told many of them that I was offered that, yet no one said a thing. I even asked Louisa to make sure we had everything. She listed that stuff off that I wrote ^^ and never said a thing about the internet. I didn't wanna pay for the blast package that was originally offered b/c it costs more. I'm just getting the 12Mb/s now.

I happily canceled my TV service with them. Life has been better until they called my roommate yesterday and accused us of getting their services for free. Nice customer service. He cleared everything up with her, but when asked about our security deposit she told him that it would be credited to account and used to pay for our monthly bills. We just got a bill for $164. I called and spoke with Micheal C from Indy Call Service Billing, and he assured me she was wrong. It does not credit to your account like she said. He said we owed $40 for half a month of TV...TV that was completely wrong in every way. That $40 at half a month is not even the rate that was offered to us...still. Regardless, I'm through with them. I'm paying them so they will shut the **** up, and I want them out of my life with no more than a $30 monthly payment for our internet - which is still a rip off.

Thanks to Melvin and Micheal for their great service. Comcast can burn in h-e-l-l though.
