Re: Price increasing?

That too is going up but only a few dollars compare to CC...I guess they have more subscribers to spread it out at more of a minumum charge...evidently CC is losing customers so costing more per ratio of subscribers

Re: Price increasing?

How many price hikes do they need in a year?  Cable and internet isnt a must have like gasoline.  First it was a 2 dollar increase on modem rental, then a 2 dollar increase on basic cable.  Now, less than a year later its a 4 dollar increase on basic cable and a 3 dollar increase on basic internet.  It doesnt take a brain surgeon to figure out you cant just keep jacking your customers over during hard times without losing your customer base.  Just ask Netflix!!!  First I will buy my own modem, then when they jack their fees some more, I will buy a dish and pay the extra money for that and get a whole lot more than I am getting now!!!!

Re: Price increasing?

I had to change my HD tv from CC to another provider all because of an outragous price to switch my service when I moved. They wanted an ungodly price to switch my service to another location. They would not do it for free just to keep my business.SO I dropped all but internet to save the money just for the switch and it was still like 24.95 to just do that...I can`t believe CC doesn`t offer free moving expense just to keep your business...but the new provider I have now does offer and that is why I`m going to stay with them...Plus when I did do the move CC had it sooo screwed up it took me 2 months to get the over 200 bucks taken off...and 5 phone calls with over 2 hours on there to convince them they were wrong and I did not owe them that amount...so glad I am over all of that ..Good luck people on your complaints and over charges !!!!!!!

Re: Price increasing?

I am with you drumforu!!  February 7 is when Direct TV does the installation at my house.  All I paid up front was about $23!  My monthly bill for Verizon and Direct TV double play is $88!  It will go up to about $119 the second year, less than half the price I was paying with Comcast for digital tv and internet and Verizon landline.  Verizon offered me the double play with Direct and it was a no brainer.  I am only keeping internet with Comcast due to my sunk costs in network equipment and I prefer the reliability of cable over satellite for internet.  My company pays for my internet anyway so that too was a no brainer.  I cannot believe how arrogant Comcast is.  I've been a customer for 10 years plus and they treat us like we just do not matter!!  I hope everyone leaves!!!

Regarding losing receiption, I have friends and family who have Direct TV and rarely do they lose connections during storms.  Sometimes, the reception will get a little "pixlely" but not for long and only in severe storms.  Other than that, reception is perfect.  I think it is worth switching.

Re: Price increasing?

Dish is great.  I'm thinking of calling them about internet.  You do lose reception at times with severe storms or your receiver gets a snowcover.  Otherwise, working with them is pleasant.  They don't give you excuses when you call them for anything.

Switching to another cable and internet provider will definitely send a message to Comcast that the rate hikes are not cool.

Luckily, I don't subscribe to any subscription contract.  I'm switching my service to Verizon FIOs.

Re: Price increasing?

Yet another unexplained price increase for the same service. So much for watching mu usage anymore, I plan on pegging that 250GB limiit every month if they keep this nonsense up. I'll stream shows when I'm not even at home, not hard to do, one can also log into various FTP sites and pull down their enrire contents, automatically indexing through the sub-directories. If you want to raise my rates then I'm going to get EVERYTHIG I pay for!!

Re: Price increasing?

My TV and cable  charges went up from $107 to $149....that is a very high amount. I can't talk to anybody in the evening the customer, service office is closed. However if I want to buy something...they are so ready to help me 24 hours a day.

I feel like the TV cable and internet services charge way too much. Thinking about getting rid of my cable or just pay the minimum charge for reception.

Re: Price increasing?

FYI I had dish network for 3yrs, first year was great, then went down hill constantly connection with TV and internet everytime it was windy, raining, snowing or just overcast, at times we would not have any connection for up to 15-20 min.  we switched to cable and have had that now for over 2yrs, and have never had a connection issue, also the price per month for what we had was pretty comparable, maybe a $5 difference, the extra $5.00 /month is worth it to have me to have my TV and internet connections uninterupted.  Both services have their advantages and disadvantages!

I've actualy seen a 21% decrease in pay, got laid off in April 2009, slowly beating my way back up the payscale but it's slow going in this economy. I really find it hard to understand how companies like ComCast to raise rates in these times (with no change in service) and then report record profits. I know, it's simply corpoate greed and it sucks!

I contacted Comcast because my bill keeps going up, their option for loyal, long time customers = we'll give you a break if you add phone service.  Who needs that?

CenturyLink is offering HSI at $20/month for 5 years guaranteed!  We are thinking of going strickly streaming & saying bye, bye to cable all together.  Already have phone line with CenturyLink $45/month + HSI CentruyLink $20/month = $65/month.  That means we can get rid of Comcast @ $150/month altogether.

See ya later Comcast!

Same here. Mine went up $30 after promotion ending without any warning. I looked up direct tv. You can get all the premium HD channels from Dtv for $89 a month for 2 years or they have cheaper plans and just keep the comcast internet for $49 or whatever you speed your using. Yeah.. who needs the phone.

Re: Price increasing?

Our bill went up again, this time for about $8, saying on the bill that we have multiple HD outlets in our house, which is wrong, we have only one TV.

So I am very interested in what Apple is going to give us over the next year or so. Will Apple be able to replace cable?

Ive been reading that the answer will be yes!

May I insert a link in here?

So lets hang in there, but we do need to constantly bring to Comcast's attention, that their price increases are far more percentage-wise than any other 'utility'.

Technology marches on, and I think that this particular problem will be solved within a year or so.

Re: Price increasing?

We are a Colorado customer and saw a $12 increase in cable services show up in our January bill last month (without prior notice) which equates to 35%.  We've been a customer for years and have had the same channels for years, so the increase cannot be attributed to us rolling off a promotional plan.  Why the increase Comcast?  We will begin looking into other providers because the VERY FEW channels we watch are certainly not worth the price we have to pay.  It all went downhill when they dropped Universal Sports (one of the few channels that provides descent cycling coverage - and, no, NBC Sports (formerly Versus) doesn't cut it)...the rate increase is the final nail in this Comcast coffin.

Re: Price increasing?

I dont know if its allowable to put a URL link into this forum, so I have a couple of quotes from the article in Bloomberg Business Week, "Here comes Apple's Real TV"

So does this look like the future, or what.  A-la-carte channel choice would be pretty nice in the meantime, and not be forced to buy in bundles, when there is so much that we dont ever watch. Every family is different.

Here is the quote below,,,,,,,,,,

"With so much of the consumer’s time, TV has become bloated with waste. The average U.S. home receives 130 cable channels but “tunes to”—or punches in the exact channel number on the remote—just 18 channels a year. Channel surfing has died. A whopping 86% of available channels are never used by an individual viewer.

Consumers pay a lot for all this video waste and they don’t like it. The average cable bill is $75 per month, which means that each year 83 million households pay $74 billion to the top eight TV-subscription services. This is why so-called “cord cutting,” by which consumers drop cable to watch videos on Roku, Hulu, or the Xbox 360 from Microsoft is (MSFT) accelerating; Comcast (CMCSA), the leading U.S. cable system, lost 238,000 subscribers in the second quarter. If Apple were to offer a better service, people might pay up for it.

Tim Cook, I like the way you think."

I have stock in both AAPL and CMCSA so Im not predudiced. Am satisfied with our houseful of Apple products, and totally satisfyed with Comcast's internet and TV services.

Re: Price increasing?

Purchased a Roku two months ago ($50).  So pleased with it purchased another last week.  Hulu Plus ($8/month) has everything but CBS, which is important.  Hopefully they will resolve that soon.  In the mean time there is CBS.com which provides viewing content for most of it's programming.  Add Netflix ($8/month), Amazon ($80/year), Crackle (free), Pandora (excellent music channel & free) - won't be long & customers will be flocking from Cable in droves.  Best thing is you DON'T have to record anything (streaming content) & there are NO COMMERCIALS!

Re: Price increasing?

Comcast recently raised rates to at least to 10%, 20% and 25% starting January 2012 year without notifying customers. Subscribers who have a bundle plan are on-the-hook and are unable to cancel their subscription until it expires and switch to a cheaper provider. Comcast didn't notify customers of the rate hike because they didn't want a mass cancellation of subscribers affect their quarter end subscriber loss. But I'm leaving Comcast and going with Verizon (FIOS) because it's a lot cheaper on a monthly basis.

I agree - I think Comcast is being greedy and taking advantage of its customers.  Loyalty to long term customers? HA!  Getting you to sign up for "triple play" then raising prices when that rate "expires" is no way to repay long-term customers.  I guess losing a few customers doesn't phase them

While I know that the paper billing statement may look different in different areas of the country... Here in the Midwest on the face of my statement I see any upcoming changes or price increases under "News from Comcast'.  If I view my billing statement details online, I aslo see it there, under News From Comcast.  And, whenever a price change takes effect, I see a new Price List too, if I keep on scrolling down the online bill.

Have you viewed your Billing Details online at all?  Here are the directions:

HOW TO GET A COPY OF YOUR PAPER BILL

Log  in to Customer Central using one of the steps listed in Section 1 of the post above.

When Customer Central opens, you will see a brief summary of your bill.

You will also see View bill details, click that link OR click the Account & Bill tab

When the billing summary opens, scroll down the page.

On the left side look for Bill Details and History.

Using the drop-down arrow choose the bill you wish to view.

Click View/Print Bill Details for a copy of your paper bill in .pdf format.

You can choose whether to open or save it.

You can also print the bill.

*This method will show only the past 12 bills.

Credit to Queen Evie for posting these directions in the Billing Forum sticky Thread

Comcast can go Blow. They're not in the customer service business. They are how ever in the taking advantage of the customer business. I'm looking for new options as well. In the last 6 months my bill has gone from the 69.99 intro rate to $89 to $105 to $113 to $125 to $135 to $139. WTH? Regardless of when or how we get informed of price increases, I'm not recieving any benifits for the price increases.

Re: Price increasing?

The main reason that they can do all this, is that there is NO competition!  They are a monopoly. There are no other cable companies around here.

We could choose DSL here if we really wanted to, but actually Comcast is better, so we prefer to bite the bullet and pay thru the nose.

But if Apple gets its act together within the next couple of years, Comcast watch out!

Re: so called bundle packages ha!

Hi Kiesha,

I would love to ask you a direct question, and here it is,

Will Comcast ever offer a-la-carte choices? It would be just wonderful to pare way down to about 30 channels and eliminate all the stuff that we never watch.

I realize that you cable companies have to buy your lineups in bundles, so you are sort of stuck with this too. Its like going into a store and wanting to buy some tomatoes, but not being able to purchase them without being required to also buy some artichokes, eggplant, okra, and stuff you would never eat, just to get the tomatoes.

So what do you think of this possibility? And if so, a time frame?

If so, I would gladly pay for this option.

Thanks

My bill skyrockeed by 20 dollars with absolutely zero notification.

And what do I get with this increase? Do I finally get a DVR that hold more than 40g and that I can watch recorded shows from any other TV? No, it doesn't come close to the competition and Comcast charges more.

You wanna talk bad customer service! We joined this forum in 2007 & cannot even load up an Avatar.  We have to post 100 times or something like that, but if you just joined you can load up an Avatar.  Here we go again - Comcast just keeps jackin over their long standing customers.

Wanna make me happy Comcast?  Double my internet speed without a price increase.

& please fix the Avatar issue.  It may seem silly but the fact that a new member can put up an Avatar & old members cannot is another example of poor attention to detail.

Re: Price increasing?

I switched from DirecTV because I was up to $175 for their bundle (Started out at $69.99). They too do not tell you when there's an increase. Surprise! is what you get when you open your bill. Funny thing is, when I changed over to Comcast (who I am locked into pricewise for 2 years), DirecTV calls me and says they can give me the same package I had for $40/month CHEAPER! Well if you could give me that now WHY NOT BEFORE I LEFT??? All of the cable companies are the same. They need to come up with a way to give us the channels WE want and not shove all these other ones down our throats. Maybe charge per channel? So don't think that what the other guy is offering is any better - it's not!

Re: Price increasing?

No but DirecTV gets you with increases almost every month after your initial plan is up. We went from $39.99/month to $75/month (not counting taxes and fees!!!) in a year after our "special introductory offer" expired. Add on phone and internet and we were paying almost $175/month. Did they offer anything else? NO! But miraculously when we switched to Comcast, they came up with a $40/month plan. Well if you could give us that now, why not before???? And DirecTV lost a LOT of signals during wind storms and heavy rain and not only that but during a storm, it pulled up part of my roof. Yeah, none of them are that great and screw over  the consumer no matter how hard we try to stop it.

Price increasing?

My bill is up $7.00 this month. Not a huge increase, but I started at  $99.00 a month for basic cable and internet. jumped up to 115, now 122.  ????

No noice was given prices are going up. A heads up would have been nice.

If and when a better rate comes around ATT or other service I will consider leaving Comcast.

Re: Price increasing?

I had moved into an area that only offers Comcast & Direct TV, coming from a Cablevision area , I am very disappointed. My promo period is not even a full year, I found out by trial & error that some of the channels that I view on a regular basis had to be purchased extra as add ons and that promo period is only for

6 months which also makes not sense and I only have TV & internet & my bill is too high. I understand that

Comcast is a sports based company, but that shoudl be a choice not an option, I like a few channels but not a million, and do not want all the latino & religious either. I read & know that the FCC is in the works of working  out a plan where cable companies offer their customers ala carte channels and they really should work on getting this done, as they will be losing a lot of customers with all the new options out there for better options such as Hula & Roku- the FCC & government should also work on getting more competion for the customer to chose whom they want to use. I am forced to use Comcast ( dish not an option for me with weather in NJ) and very very unhappy - I want my Cablevision & my old channels back!

I am so tired of having to pick out our nice channels from the mess of unwanted mass of channels that is given us. Whoops I shouldnt say 'given', we pay for it.

But did you look at Apple stock today? Its up over 20 bucks a share. They've got something pretty slick up their sleeve.

I think in the soon future, Apple is going to shake up the Television industry!

We will see a revolutionary change in how TV is delivered to us!

Now wouldnt that be just ducky!

I hope Apple does something as well.  I will be thrilled to ditch cable for something better and CHEAPER.  Like everyone else I am sick and tried of price increases.  When my cable bill arrived yesterday I was greeted with a ten dollar increase!  I cannot complain about the internet service but the tv leaves a lot to be desired.  There must be something better out there...

Re: Price increasing?

Same with me, an 8 dollar increase for what?

But I do like Comcast interenet, not ever a problem.

Well a tiny glitch once and a while, like today, the net was out, but only for a little while.

I am happy with their service.

But the TV, its pretty good for clarity and most everything. But the price and the load of unwanted channels is something that Apple might really change.

Wont this be really fun and exciting if things start to happen!
