Any word on Pittsburgh? Funny how we're in the same state as comcast yet get such lamer service.

In the city of Boston, Massachusetts, where there is no outside cable or internet competition to speak of (no fios) for Comcast, I am sure it would be in Comcast's best interest to have yet another package to sell its customers suffering under their monopoly. Luckily in the City of Boston, we receive Fox Soccer Channel and GOLtv. However, these channels are broadcast by Comcast in a definition that would have represented a quality signal in, say, 1980. I call it Twentieth Century Def. I have not purchased the package that includes these two stations, but if I were a Comcast executive trying to view these channels as they are broadcasted, I would be sorely embarrassed. Not only would I be embarrassed, I would also have a terrible headache and eyestrain from viewing such a poor quality feed (think slightly better than those old Atari video games). Secondly, I would be embarrassed that a company which advertises itself as a leader in technology cannot produce a signal for their customers that is no better that what we got in the 80s. Furthermore, I would be embarrassed that a market - as I mentioned earlier, a market with virtually zero competition - that is so entirely diverse, with large groups of people from all over the world, receives a signal quality equal to that of some places from whence they came (Honduras, El Salvador, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, Vietnam, just to name a few).
Reading this thread, it's obvious that there is demand. Further reading uncovers this murky decision making process comcast seems to use: this community is ready for an "upgrade"; that town can enjoy our benevolence now; we have a lot on our plate and will make that decision in a few years time. If we want to waste our life away in front of the television why won't Comcast facilitate this by just piping in what we want to see and they are dangling just above our heads? The whole spectacle is embarrassing, considering we are just asking for two lousy channels that some comcast customers get and others don't....
How about this, respond to this post with a specific date concerning when the City of Boston will get their GOLtv HD and Fox Soccer HD. If there is no specific date, don't bother responding, we can take the hint.

Ditto. I think I'm calling my Comcast office to cancel my sports package. No need to pay for standard def FSC. I'll be sure to note that when I cancel my service to demonstrate the demand in the Chicago area.

****NEWSFLASH****
I just heard today from my source at Comcast that Fox Soccer HD will be coming to the DC/MD/VA region this Monday, (06/04/2012).
She said it will be on channel 842.
If this is true (maybe Teds can verify?) then all I can say is FANTASTIC!!!
I've been waiting years for this moment. Just in time for the Euro's and it will make watching the Premier League 100% more enjoyable next season.

Most of the DC/MD/VA areas (suburbs of Washington, DC) of Comcast are expected to add Fox Soccer Channel HD on a rolling schedule throughout June 2012.

Teds - Are we still on the same schedule for Hillsborough, NJ. I called Customer service for an update and they gave me a run around as usual.
06-01-2012 09:24 AM
The fact that a Comcast employee can't even get a straight answer from another Comcast employee... really tells us everything we need to know about how this company operates.
Rest assured that the only reason I continue to be a Comcast customer is because I *literally* have NO other choice for cable TV. FiOS is not available in my area. I can't get DirecTV because I live in an apartment building. Comcast effectively has a monopoly. I would have canceled my service years ago if there was ANY alternative. No wonder Comcast takes my business for granted.
I'll continue to expect nothing.

Thanks for checking in the Chicagoland area ComcastTeds. I am in the western suburbs. Our Comcast hub is Elmhurst, IL.
As ComcastTeds said while they are reviewing adding FSC HD, nothing is currently planned. In the mean time, my bill due on June 5 said that Comcast is adding World Fishing Network, BabyFirst Americas, and Outside Television.
Once again, you've got to question the competence of the staff making these decisions. I'll give a pass to BabyFirst Americas because that is a different demographic (though I've never heard of the network). However, adding World Fishing Network and Outside Television over Fox Soccer Channel HD seems like a boneheaded decision. With the diverse cultures in the Chicago area (read: soccer crazy fans), adding fishing and hunting channels makes the most sense? Wouldn't those be more appropriate for rural IL not urban IL (not trying to offend anyone, but the correlation is there)? I also understand those aren't HD channels being added, but surely it would be cheaper to upgrade a channel to HD and use that bandwith than to add three channels in SD?
ComcastTeds, I hope at the very least you can forward on this complaint to that local team. Tell them to go visit The Globe Pub off Irving Park Road in the city during a major game and then justify World Fishing Network, BabyFirst Americas, and Outside Television. You could also remind them that U-Verse, Dish and DirecTV all carry FSC HD here too (as well as FSC Plus HD).
06-01-2012 01:34 PM
Well said gsmith318. I got the same channels added in the Mt. Prospect area and my jaw dropped. I'm sure they're cheaper to add (let's hope so) but I tire of paying $9 extra a month to watch the terrible SD feed.
06-01-2012 02:36 PM - edited 06-01-2012 03:34 PM
Look, I want FSC in HD as much as anyone, but post like this are just silly.
We pay more for the sports bracket, therefore we should get our channels in HD ASAP. Good argument.
Other channels are being upgradded/added, so Comcast is unfair. Bad argument.
Ever worked in the TV industry? Do you know anything about licencing deals when it comes to cable TV?
Some channels are incredibly cheap for a cable company to pick up, especially newer and smaller channels that are desperate for viewers.
Other channles, say Fox Soccer, are controlled by huge media conglomerates, which generally leads to long, drawn out licencing negotiations, especially when dealing with a channel that has such a built in, rabid fan base.
Apples and oranges, pure and simple.
06-01-2012 03:47 PM
Comcast signed an agreement with FSC over a year ago so the above is not an issue at all.
06-01-2012 03:51 PM
Icehippo. Your point would be valid, except for the fact that Comcast already owns the rights to show Fox Soccer. We can all watch this channel is SD. The whole point of this thread is the lack of availability of Fox Soccer HD. Comcast does not need to enter any negotiations to broadcast in HD. They already have that right.
All the posters in this thread are entitled to their "silly" opinions, but given that Comcast is only selectively broadcasting in HD, all are completely justified.
06-01-2012 03:54 PM
I think the main issue is that the person who is responsible for upgrading certain channels to HD has no idea what he/she is doing.
Maybe someone can point me to some 20 pages long topic titled "We want cooking channel in HD".
In any case I'm sure we have cooking channel in HD in every single area served by Comcast.
If you want to learn some cooking I don't think it make any difference whatsoever if you see pots and pans in SD or HD.
06-01-2012 04:03 PM
Specifically, Comcast signed an agreement to broadcast FSC in HD everywhere they had HD service. The annoyance is how long individual Comcast affiliates are taking to do it.
06-01-2012 04:37 PM
Good try tring to Troll Icehippo, but as others have pointed out your points are moot. This is not about asking for a new channel, its about having one already available to everyone. They have the rights, they have the bandwith, they just need to make it available in HD.
06-02-2012 12:25 PM
Thanks for the responses Ted. Could you (or anyone else) confirm whether the DC/MD/VA area you refer to includes Baltimore City, or is it just suburbs closer to DC?
06-03-2012 12:59 AM
FYI Euros 2012 is exclusive to the ESPN family of networks.

Ted, do you happen to have any idea when us folk in Western Mass (Springfield Area) will be seeing Fox Soccer HD?

Fox Soccer in High Def ...............
It's here in the Rosedale area (baltimore County), Channel 842 !!!!!!!!

Finally, after a long, long, wait.

Simply put, in some of the cases, it means that a decision had not yet been made and/or a date has not been set for that area. Thanks for your business and your comments.

Many Comcast areas are going though a staged and deliberate bandwidth reclamation plan in order to free up additional channel space to add more HD channels.
Grand Rapids is still going through that reclamation.
More info on that here: https://digitalnow.comcast.com/
That is part of the reason that Comcast is delivering DTAs (Digital Transport Adapters) in each market and why some a cable box or DTA needs to eventually be on every TV set in the home.
Each Comcast area is in a different stage of that transition project. That work needs to be completed in each market before additional HD channels like Fox Soccer Channel HD are able to be added.
That is mostly why some markets have it and some do not.
As evidenced by this thread, many Comcast areas have started to add Fox Soccer Channel HD.
06-04-2012 03:58 PM
ComcastTeds,
Your reponses are appreciated because, put simply, it's far more than we're getting out of anyone else at your company. (Though it doesn't take much to top nothing.)
Who *specifically" makes the decisions and/or sets dates, and how can I contact them? I am located in Cambridge, MA. If I cannot get a satisfactory answer on this matter, I will be canceling my service.
06-04-2012 05:24 PM
i don't know about Baltimore City, but I can confirm for Montgomery County, Fox Soccer Channel HD is now on the air. Channel 842. About time!
06-04-2012 05:45 PM
I can confirm that FSC HD is live on channel 842 in Odenton, MD which is not too far from Baltimore, MD. However, I use Tivo and had to check the channel in my settings before is showed up in my list. The guide is not yet showing any listing information.
06-04-2012 06:01 PM
With all or most of allegheny county having fios it is surprising the pittsburgh region is missing out on the new channels and features.
06-05-2012 10:28 AM
Any news for downstate Illinois? I'm in Urbana. I don't hold out much hope if Chicago doesn't have it yet, but would love to hear some news. Even progress on reclaimation here? I will not be keeping my service with Comcast if I cannot watch EPL this August when I can pay $125 for Fox Soccer online for an entire year.
I just cannot fathom how Fox Soccer is not on HD on this network . Literally every other carrier in my area has it. My grandparents, on their dumpy regional only cable provider, have it.
06-05-2012 11:18 AM
Yes, just noticed today it is on 842 in HD in Frederick, Maryland. So glad this has finally happend. Wondering if GOLTV will follow any time soon?
06-05-2012 11:55 AM
Wondering the same thing about Goltv in my area of Maryland as well. I haven't received a response yet on the GolTV forum.
06-05-2012 01:12 PM
ITS TRUE DC just Got it!!!!
06-05-2012 08:49 PM
I can confirm there's FSC HD in Northern Virginia, Channel 842. Bravo. What a wait!!!
06-06-2012 05:34 AM
Got up early today here in Atlanta and flipped through the channels. Saw Fox Soccer Report was on and clicked it and the little "Watch in HD" message popped up. I rubbed my eyes and clicked it and there it was!! Channel 794! Fox Soccer Channel in HD!! Finally! I could whine that this happened right after the English Premier League season ended but whatever! Thank you, Comcast. Better late than never!

Now its June 6 and still no sign of Fox Soccer HD. Teds?
06-06-2012 10:34 AM
As I mentioned in previous post I now get FSC in HD in Atlanta on Gwinnett Broadband but just read the "sneak preview" part. What does that mean? Surely Comcast isn't going to give it to us for a bit and then yank it away!! Especially considering the European leagues are, for the most part, not playing for a while. Someone please tell me FSC in HD is here to stay!
06-06-2012 02:06 PM
I can only assume that a 'sneak preview' refers to having the channel available to those who do not subscribe to the full package, I don't think they would add a channel for a short time and take it away....
06-06-2012 02:43 PM
Makes sense that ithe preview is for non-subscribers. I've fought for this for so long I got a little paranoid that they would take it away but that wouldn't make any sense at all.

Never mind - got it! Thanks for starting just as the season ended Comcast. I guess sometime is better than never.
06-06-2012 07:08 PM
Just got it here as well. Too bad the EPL season is over. Also see a GMHD1 on channel 800, so maybe we'll finally see some MLB Extra Innings show up in HD.

Yup, ch. 794 in Atlanta just got activated today (June 6). The guide is still listing it as BigTenHD but the content is all FSN. Yeah!

Here in Richmond VA, we started getting FSC in HD Monday!! Ch842.
06-07-2012 08:52 AM
Cancelling Comcast today. I'm tired of Comcast stringing us along. I may consider re-upping if they ever decide to get Fox Soccer, Fox Soccer +, and GolTV in HD. When will that be? 2015 maybe? 2016? Over that stretch, that's about $7,500-$10,000 worth of business lost from me because they can't convert the channels that I already receive to HD. Shopping networks in HD? No problem. We'll give you 5 of them.
