HD Channels coming in scrambled and delayed

I have had several HD channels coming in scrambled, WJZ, Fox, WBAL, etc.  Is there a quick fix or do I need to call Comcast?  Also, my internet has breaks in service too.  Only for a few seconds, but it is a disruption.  Are these two issues related?

What do you mean by scrambled?  Do you have a cable box, or are you connecting the TV directly to the cable?

I can't think of any connection between the internet breaks and the TV problem, but you might post a description of the internet problem on the appropriate forum.

It is a cable box.  The channel comes in broken up, and at times it freezes.  I mentioned the internet to see if the issues might be related.

It only scrambles on the HD channels.

Re: HD Channels coming in scrambled and delayed

This could be caused by a weak signal, which can affect only certain channels. Check the connections to the cable box, especially the incoming coax, and eliminate any unnecessary splitters.

To check signal strength with a Motorola box, tune to the offending channel, turn off the box with the remote, then within two seconds hit "OK/Select." This will bring up the diagnostics screen. Select "Inband Status" (probably page d04) and look for "SNR" for the tuner(s). This value should be in the mid to upper 30s. You may be able to improve the signal strength by adding a signal amplifier to the incoming cable line.

It also may be a weak signal caused by problems outside your house, in which case a call to 1-800-COMCAST to have them send out a tech to check on it may be of benefit.

The SNR is running between 25 - 27.  Should I call comcast, if I am paying for service, why add additional items?

That's a pretty low signal.  If you've checked the connectors and splitters, call Comcast.
