Need more PBS station choices

As a new cable subscriber, I was disappointed to find only one PBS station.  WMFE does not carry "Charlie Rose," who is a top favorite with most PBS viewers.  Other PBS stations such as WDSC (Daytona Beach), and WEDU in Tampa seem to have better programming choices.  Or what about WHYY in Philidelphia?  I know a lot of people in this area would enjoy having more PBS.  Can we get "Charlie Rose?"  Or is it back to rabbit ears?

You need to call your local Comcast office, or your town's cable TV commission. Channel selection is a local issue, not made by Comcast at the corporate level.

They will be if you have an analog/digital converter.

Re: Need more PBS station choices

Many PBS stations offer "multicasting" of their OTA broadcast, which means they may offer subchannels such as PBS Create, mHz Worldview, or Documentaries. Comcast sometimes retransmits these OTA "subchannels" on cable, sometimes they don't. In my area, Comcast carries two PBS affiliates (KCTS and KBTC). Comcast offers three feeds of KCTS, but only one of KBTC's four OTA feeds.

If you receive good antenna reception of the desired PBS stations, you could pick up a digital converter box and connect it to your TV so you could switch back-and-forth between the Comcast feed and the OTA feed. The key here, though, is "if you receive good antenna reception". I've experimented extensively with OTA converter boxes because I like some of the subchannels not currently transmitted by Comcast, but digital TV antenna reception is more difficult than analog antenna reception.

Re: Need more PBS station choices

Doesn't Comcast own or in a joint venture with PBS in PBS Kids Sprout? In addition, we have so many listings on our Channel Guide here (SE Michigan) that I can't figure them out any longer:

6 - WTVS

97 - WTVS but only appears on a non HD box (appears to be an analog channel

240 - PBS1 HD

241 - PBS2 HD (shows a 1081i signal through the box, but a 480i signal w/o the box and can be seen on a non HD TV). The programming does NOT match what is shown on the guide. It matches channel 6. ??????

242 WTVS 3 - Create

In addtion to the PBS Kids Sprout channel.

Duh.
