I have Comcast cable internet which works fine. So, to watch the olympics, I added an Xfinity TV subscription. After hours of trying to log in to the NBC site, I was finally told that although all I wanted to do was watch the olympics streaming on my computer, I still had to have my cable box (which I don't use) hooked to the cable, the phone line and my TV. Without an actual TV set, they can't activate it. My problem is I don't own a TV and don't want to buy one. I AM willing to pay lots of money to watch the olympics, but to purchase a TV when I don't want to watch it, is not the right answer. So, I gave up and cancelled the TV service. I'm bummed out about this.
Solved! Go to Solution.

I'm curious who told you that becasue the customer service people I talked to had never heard about the olympic streaming that's supposed to be available if you have cable. The tech guy had heard of it but couldn't hlep me get past the first screen. He blamed it on the NBC server. I have both internet and tv but I cannot get signed up

retiredtony, what sort of trouble are you having?
For the first time ever, any and all of the live Olympics coverage can be viewed online or on your mobile device, more details here:
http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/nbcolympics
and here http://www.nbcolympics.com/liveextra/index.html
Provided a customer has digital starter or above and a Comcast.net ID.
If you don’t have a Comcast ID, Comcast customers can get one at the link below:

Hi,
When I try to watch a replay the sign up screen pops up. I am supposed to either click on the large comcast button or choose comcast from the list of providers. Neither choice works. It won't go beyond that screen. I never get to the second screen where you have to give them information. I have both Comcast internet and tv. I have the digital starter package.
thanks

I've asked someone to take a look at your account, Are you are having this problem on a laptop or PC or a tablet or a Mac? Can you provide some more details? Thanks.

I'm having the exact same issue, nothing happens when I click the big Comcast button or when I choose it in the list. I'm using a MacBookPro 13 with both Sarari and Firefox. Everything is up to date including Silverlight.

See my post and saga with this same issue here (bottom comment essay) :
http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Channels-and-Programm
I cannot login to olympics, get past login step 1 either
I also have premier tier
I get the feeling that as people begin to login tonight and tomorrow there will be a major flood of this issue...people are just getting home from work.
07-27-2012 06:07 PM
I have a PC- less than a year old. Running Windows 7 with 4 Gb of RAM. The hard drive has plenty of room.
07-27-2012 06:12 PM
I just called Comcast again 5:10pm EST Today Fri July 27 (Sorry for Dbl Post) They checked into my Ticket #/Open Work Order....and Customer Service Rep said that she
"talked to technical support and that they have several agents working right now to fix this known issue & to please give them another 24 hours, It may take less than that but it should be fixed by then and I can keep tryiing to login over the next 24 hours to check"
We shall see...I do believe...Ughh!

Edited my original post.
I am a Xfinity Digital Cable subscriber and have been enjoying online streaming from the web site.
However, our internet service is Verizon DSL.
For those Verizon customers attempting to view Olympics 'Extra' live streaming, you have to be Verizon Fios subscriber.
We do not have Fios in our area.
No, we are not going upgrade our cable TV service to the Digital Starter package.
If I am missing any details in being able to access the NBC 'Extra' live streaming for the Olympics, please let me know.
Otherwise, once it is known for sure this is not possible we can move on.
I get the impression many folks are running into this.
Thank you.

*bump* Same issue here. Using Windows 7 and have tried with Firefox and Chrome.

I can't login to NBC Live Extra either. I've tried to log in several times but it just takes me back to the home page. I have a cable subscription but it won't work. Help!

Ditto. I added the service today but haven't hooked up a box to a tv because I planned to use the NBC app or watch Olympics online but can't authenticate or I get message "This network is not included in your xfinity tv subscription".
Update: apparently you have to add the box first to "activate" your service before you can access any online content, including authenticating through the NBC app. I plugged in my box today and in minutes was able to log on to all sites- through the app, xfinitytv, and nbconline.com (using Chrome).

I hve comcast TV and comcast cable for my internet service. When I go to the http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/nbcolympics site and hit the 'watch on TV' button, I get an error message that says 'No compatible cable boxes were found in your household'. It includes an extremely unhelpful link that tells me how to set up an app for my smartphone. I want to watch the olympics in my office on my computer. This is extremely frustrating.
07-28-2012 12:02 AM
Try going to the Watch Now tab near the top and select Online.
It may send you to the nbcolympics site to sign in. You also need CNBC or MSNBC apparently to be able to do this in your cable package.

I am truly ticked off. I am having the same problem. Have to watch it on my television - cannot use my laptop. Can't get past the authentication screen. I did try clicking watch now and then online as previous poster suggested. It does NOT work.

Here are some things that have worked for other customers having trouble getting to the http://www.nbcolympics.com/ online site:
Try to login again.
If you are stil having trouble, give us a call at 1-800-COMCAST.
A subscription to Digital Starter (or above) is required to be able to access the site.

I am having the same issue. I called Comcast support many times on Friday and was told that their "IT team" is working on the issue. The support guy told me that new xfinaty customers who signed up the cable TV service recently (within last week) are having this issue. Not very impressed with the whole deal, especially given all the publicity and promotion about being able to "watch all Olympic events live online" by Comcast.

Got mine to finally work. I'm using a macbook pro, safari browser. In preferences/security I unchecked the block pop ups and it worked. So if you have anything blocking pop ups, try disabling it.
07-28-2012 04:22 AM
OK i got the video to work. It turns out that NBC Live Extra does not work with Firefox. I had to use Chrome instead.
07-28-2012 11:02 AM
I have XFINITY Digital triple play with both MSNBC and CNBC. I cannot get Live Extra video. I have tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer, I've disabled popup blocking, I've enabled 3rd party cookies, I've installed MS Silverlight, I've checked to make sure my version of Flash is up to date.
With Firefox, I get the "choose your cable provider" dialog in an infinite loop.
With IE, I don't get the dialog, but the videos never load -- I just have a black rectangle. No logo, no "loading...", no nothing.
I'm running XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 on a desktop PC.

I'm having the same problems as everyone else and it's not because of a new account. I've been a Comcast subscriber for several years. Like everybody else, I get to the Comcast logo on the "choose your provider" screen, but when I click on the logo absolutely nothing happens. I called 1-800-COMCAST and the tech (presumably level one) said she was elevating it and that someone would call me back. Nothing yet.
07-28-2012 12:14 PM
Similar problem -- trying to access streaming with Windows 7/Chrome and get bumped to initial login screen any time I try to sign in. Seems there is an authentication problem when using Chrome browser. I am able to access content via Internet Explorer, but with a subpar viewing experience as the browser freezes frequently to buffer.

One problem I see is when trying to sign up on :
http://www.nbcolympics.com/liveextra/help/index.ht
On the initial pop up screen - to chose your provider - when you mouse over the large Comcast button you will see the following URL:
http://www.nbcolympics.com/liveextra/help/index.ht
which, when you click it, takes you to the same URL as the original top one above but just adds a # to the original URL - it is the same darn page You started from - Call NBC
edit 10:30 pm : Finally got Chrome to work - you have to let Flash allow other sites to put content on your computer- set at about 100k limit worked for me ----- TheGuy2012 had the solution in his post about adjusting Flash below -Thanks

I really dislike that position that comcast has taken on this issue. I have internet and basic cable and comcast is blocking my access to an NBC website because I haven't purchased a more expensive cable service.
So much for network neutrality.
This combined with the olympic marketing croanies have me thinking about picking a regular old paper back book.
07-28-2012 01:56 PM
I have Internet, TV, and Phone from Comcast. I have the channels I need for the online one, i.e. msnbc, cnbc, bravo, etc. However, I can't access the olympics like everyone above. I have tried Firefox, Chrome, and have microsoft silverlight, I use windows xp, and the first screen still pops up. The one that says You are not subscribed , and upgrade now. How can I fix this? Or at least get help to fix this.
07-28-2012 02:21 PM
I'm having the exact same problems. On top of it, I cant even get the mobile app as I have a Windows 7 Phone.
07-28-2012 02:37 PM
ditto "Bump"....
07-28-2012 02:47 PM
Having exactly same problem, Chatted and tried all they say...use different browser than IE...downloaded foxfire.. google chrome...not working...comcast not compatible with IE 9...removed 9 and back to 8 now working...be sure to have latest adobe flash...check...not working...
Trying to get back to chat...no one home. frustrating. Further ideas?

Add me to the list of not being able to watch the olympics events that I won't. Have tried all of the above and nothing works Running Win 7 have the required cable subscription, more ram and HD space then anyone would need thanks to my son who builds computers. I have also email NBC as I feel that there is a problem on their end also since it just loops around to picking your cable provider. Also tried using explore8, also have all the latest updates on everything. This is getting old, why advertise something for months then when the time comes it doesn't work.

Is there any update on this issue? I have both comcast and verizon service, and neither one will allow me to login. I've had the same problem on MAC/PC/linux machines. This is ridiculous that NBC/Comcast can run an online authentication system for their customers.
07-28-2012 03:55 PM
any more news on this issue? Mine is the same as everyone else. I have tried everything and have been now on hold for more than 30 mins just trying to talk with someone.

Exact same problem---when I click the comcast box, nothing happens ![]()

Change it to auto accept.
Close and reload your browser.
should work perfectly fine. Enjoy the Olympics everyone

Updated Flash; set to allow all sites; Still no success. I'm beginning to wonder if this is a 64 bit OS issue. There's no 64 bit version of Flash, so I'm making sure I run my 32 bit IE 8, but it's possible the 64 bit OS is somehow at fault. Sure hope they get this fixed.
07-28-2012 05:34 PM
64 bit shouldnt make a bit of a difference. if you've tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash aswell and making sure you follow the instructions to the letter, including deleting the remaining files left behind and restarting the computer before reinstalling. go into the advanced settings of the flash player settings manager and click delete all and see if that'll work for you.

All - most of the issues have been with individual browser settings or issues with your cable account that can be easiliy corrected.
If you already have a ticket open, the team will work that and has been fairly quick in most all cases, there are several examples of that in this thread.
If you don't already have a ticket open, please call us at 1-800-COMCAST and start that process with someone who can access your account directly.
At the risk of repeating:
Here are some things that have worked for other customers having trouble getting to the http://www.nbcolympics.com/ online site:
Try to login again.
Digital Starter (or above) is required in order to access the site.
There have been some other helpful items from others in this thread as well. Thanks everyone for adding your tips.

Ticket and open work order ---check!
Still cannot get in, the Comcast button and dropdown menus now respond with changing setting in flash to "accept all websites...." but again just recycles me back to the Nbc olympics main page. Cannot stream live or stream finished events.

I'm reasonably well versed on computers, and I've done everything listed:
Comcast account with proper digital tier (not a new account)
Popup blocker disabled
Cleared IE cache and reset SSL state
Uninstalled flash; deleted temp files as instructed and rebooted
Reinstalled latest Flast verion; validated settings set to "allow sites to save information on my computer"
Went to Nbcolympics.com and clicked on "Click Here and Get Ready" then on the subsequent screen, clicked on "Click Here to Get Started"
At the popup screen, clicked on the Comcast logo - and absolutely nothing happens.
NOTE: I viewed the Carson Daly video which is Flash based, so I'm reasonably certain this is not a Flash issue.

Same here...except when I press button it cylcles back to NBC page...Comcast cust serv. said earlier they will call me when the issue is fixed....again I/we wait.
07-28-2012 06:18 PM
This is def not my issue. I have tried ALL the various things mentioned plus a few other things. No matter if it was IE 10 or Chrome on my Windows 8 laptop or IE 9/Chrome/Firefox on Windows 7. I was looping on choosing my provider.
I tried something different. I grabbed my mifi card, turned it on, connected and tried to connect. Guess what, it worked! It loaded video, etc. I was watching the live volleyball game.
But after GOING back to my comcast interenet, I was right back to square one. So obviously it is NOT my system as I was told by the phone reps.
07-28-2012 06:40 PM
Firefox keept crashing after trying to login...so I decided to try IE9 which FINALLY...I'm in. Feed is jerky but at least I'm in(I have a powerful PC as well ~Win 7 64 I7QuadIntelChip 12GBRAM 1TBHD, I also have Comcast Blast Internet W Docsis3.0 12mb/up 40mb/down) I had to click on "Compatability mode" in IE9 before being let in(I clicked on this only by chance) which I believe loosens restrictions for websites. I do not use IE usually but I have bookmarked the nbc olympics page in IE9 and will only use IE to stream olympics. I will use Firefox for browsing.

I was about to give up on Comcast for watching Live Stream Video for the Games. The the same guy from Comcast, "Mr. Y" called me again for the 4th time and ask me to check if the problem is now fixed for me. I gave it a try and this time I got a new message saying "Congratulations, you are ready to watch the games". Very nice! I think in my case I may have needed to wait for up to 24 hours for newly activated cable TV subscription to "Register". I tried the various suggestions to uninstall/reinstall adobe flash player, delete cookies, allow popups, use different browsers etc. Nothing seemed to make a difference. I don't think anything I changed on my PC made the difference -- it seems Comcast IT team may have changed something on the back end. Thank you - Mr. Y :-)

Thanks to TheGuy2012 who helped me pinpoint the inactive Comcast button in verification process for viewing Olympics if you have the digital package but aren't able to verify from your PC.
In addition, to the info in his two posts, here is a rundown of what he helped me do that solved the problem!!!
I have a word doc with screen shots if this doesn' t make sense but can't post here...leave contact and will send if you need more help.
For PC with Win 7 and IE 32 (and 64 as well)
