what happened to ch. 247 KSTP-News (Minneapolis)?

It suddenly disappeared a couple of days ago. Now there's just a blue screen that says,"This channel is no longer available from the provider", but it's still listed in the lineup on Comcasts website. What's the deal?

On KSTPs website is listed 5.2 KSTP-D2. The shows on their schedule match the Comcast website tv listings. So it still may be available?

Ch 208 on the Minneapolis headend also gives the same message as the OP. On screen guide states Off the Air.

Let me find out what is scheduled for channel 208 in your area.

Below is from D. Rice over at KSTP.

In preparation for the below realignment that we've just recently shut down 45-5 and it will not be returning.  The below realignment is still scheduled for Thursday.

Hello,

This is formal notification that KSTP and KSTC in the Twin Cities market will be adding new services and changing their virtual channel line-up on June 14th.  The new channel line-up will be as follows:

5-1 KSTP-TV ABC (720p)

5-2 KSTC-TV IND (720p)

ComcastTeds

Thanks. That information seems more updated then the KSTP website. I was going to email them today having seen a couple of questions on their Facebook page about this same issue.

KSTC 45 used to be listed on their website as 5-45.

Of course a quick glance at their website didn't flash anything about losing Ch. 208. Personally not an issue for me but still nice to know.

KSTC started playing antenna tv on channel 245 today at noon in St. Paul MN. Right in the middle of the show, it went back to "this tv" programming. I then called KSTC and the programming manager told me "they are indeed airing antenna tv on channel 245 as we speak" but somehow comcast ended it and went back to "this tv". I then called comcast and they didn't have a CLUE of what's going on. I then called back KSTC and someone higher up in authority told me that comcast was having problems and was working on it. What else is new???

Apologies for the confusion and the inconvenience.

Our local engineering team in Minnesota is working with KSTC and KTSP now to get the correct programming up on the correct Comcast channels.

This should be what you are seeing right now in MN

St. Paul:

KSTPDT2 (KSTP Rewind) ch. 247 (Now defunct. On-screen message indicates the channel is no longer available.)

Me TV ch. 246

This TV ch. 245

Minneapolis:

KSTPDT2 (KSTP Rewind) 208 (Now defunct. On-screen message indicates the channel is no longer available.)

Me TV ch. 209

This TV ch. 214

Re: what happened to ch. 247 KSTP-News (Minneapolis)?

Thanks for the update. I talked to the head honcho at KSTC today and she told me that Comcast was notified by phone and in writing awhile back about the switch over. I even knew about it!! That's why I switched from being a customer of Dish Network of 12 years over to Comcast to get Antenna TV. Unfortunatley Comcast was out to lunch on this one. As mentioned before, when I talked to the local Comcast employees here in Minnesota, not one of them had an idea of what was going on..what a shame.

Certainly there was (and still is) some confusion around Comcast carriage of Antenna TV from KSTC.

Our local team will work directly with the stations and get this figured out.

Re: what happened to ch. 247 KSTP-News (Minneapolis)?

I talked by phone today to someone locally in Comcast upper management regarding this matter. He told me that I'll know when upper management at Comcast makes a decision whether to air Antenna TV or not by looking on channel 245 to see if it's on. What kind of smart alec lame answer is that?? Typical, this is what KSTC and Comcast customers has to deal with here, a bunch of incompetent Comcast employees that enjoy keeping customers in the dark.

May take longer.Comcast still lists in my city that we are supposed to get CoolTV, I am outside the metro area, but it doesn't even show up on the onscreen guide list and the channel doesn't even lock in when I tune the channel in manually.

But it shows up on the online channel lineup and the printed channel sheets. We also don't get ThisTV ( if it is still available to the metro area) and I was real surprised when MeTV actually showed up as an active channel.

I find it ironic, when you call in to Comcast here in St. Paul and ask about Antenna TV, everyone I speak to never heard of Antenna TV....They all reply "What's That?" Then they put you on hold for a number of minutes and come back and tell you "Nothing in my notes about it at all" Are they that completely out of touch that they don't even know what's going on in our area? Or are they just playing dumb? Or is it just a big cover up for the poorly operated management here? Why the Big denial? Here's a hint - How bout being upright with your customers instead of playing games all the time..you'll get a lot further in life with a word called "TRUTHFUL"

They as in Comcast are "out of touch" more because KSTP keeps changing things on a near daily basis. The best thing honestly to do is just get the stations with a good ole pair of rabbit ears. No worries then about if Comcast will carry the channels.

Re: what happened to ch. 247 KSTP-News (Minneapolis)?

That's why huh? KSTC is not changing things on a near daily basis. KSTC notified Comcast both in writing and by phone a month before they announced that there would be a transition change with their channels. It's not KSTC's fault here whatsoever. It's people like KSTC that are willing to bring more great channels to us here locally. I know I can get a "good ole pair" of rabbit ears and get it over the airwaves. If i did that, i would have to go out and by a TIVo so I could record some of the "good ole shows" that I want to see. But then what would I need Comcast for?

Re: what happened to ch. 247 KSTP-News (Minneapolis)?

You sure about KSTP not changing things on a near daily basis? Because on another forum it seems like they are mucking around with the subchannels often lately. Not to mention talking about adding whatever the name of that ABC based lifestyle network is that is really going to hurt the main ABC HD broadcast in terms of picture quality. Yeah Comcast has some fault in this by not staying alert to the changes... but KSTP seems to be changing things quite a bit to where its taking Comcast time to catch up.

They(KSTC owned by KSTP) were mucking around with with the subchannels lately on June 14th. That was their big launch day. But they did inform everyone about it way in advance. Everyone knew about it except  Comcast, even though they were notified in wrtiting and by phone. Fact is they(Comcast) got caught with their pants down again. The management never tells their own employees anything that's going on. I have been a Comcast subscriber for both my phone and internet for 12 years now. I also had Dish Network as my Satellite provider for the same amount of time. I was considering about doing a triple play(Internet, phone, cable) with Comcast to lower my monthly costs a little. What persuaded me was that I was told by a sales representive of Comcast that Antenna TV was available as part of their channel line up. I even looked at the Comcast TV listings for St. Paul and it said it was available. On the launch day by KSTC(June 14th) it was on(Antenna TV) for a couple of hours and then it was mysteriously switched back to "This TV" on channel 245 right in the middle of a show. Comcast claimed they were not ready for the switch over. Lack of Communication on Comcast's part between the Management, their employees and their customers, that's was this was all about. So goes the blame game..So goes my frustration with Comcast..

So a general question for the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area subscribers.

Is KSTC planning on keeping ThisTV and adding AntennaTV? Haven't kept up with that but I figure you people may see things in the metro papers or other sources.

KSTC is still hopefully planning on replacing "This TV" on Comcast Channel 245 (St. Paul) and 214 (Minneapolis).. "This TV" as far as I know, will still be available over the waves locally on 5-6 according to D. Rice of KSTP.

Thanks. Comcast doesn't give us access to ThisTV, outside the metro area, so probably won't get AntennaTV. At least Comcast is giving us MeTV.

commanguy, Hopefully Comcast will add This TV or Antenna TV to your channel lineup in the near future. More and more people would like to see these old sitcoms, shows that we grew up with. As you know, Antenna TV offers different shows than MeTV. Both are great channels. If Comcast would stop and realize what it would mean to their Cable service if they added both of those stations to their channel line-up everywhere, they would have a huge increase to their cable subscriptions. Since satellite networks like Dish or Direct TV don't offer those stations at all, A lot of people would leave Dish and Direct TV to get them. I know I did.

If you go to Antenna TV's web site and click on the link to their interactive affiliate map, then click on the star that's showing in the state of Minnesota, it says on the right side: Comcast in Minneapolis ch. 214(coming soon) and Comcast in St. Paul Channel 245(coming soon). However, now it looks like it will be on channel 247 instead, which would make more sense. That way they can still show This TV on Channel 245, Me TV on 246, and Antenna TV on 247.

Looks like we won't get AntennaTV in our city. Channel 208 is no longer listed on the OnScreen Guide and the channel won't enter in with the keypad.

Haven't checked today to see if it may be back. But I suspect it won't be. Another chance for a decent channel up in smoke.

Just turned on channel 247 KSTP2 in my area today and different shows are now appearing, All on Health, Travel, Food and Fitness. This is not Antenna TV. According to you and also the channel screen, Antenna TV was coming soon. "The process is underway to add Antenna TV to this Comcast area in the place of the former KSTP2-News service" What happend to that process you were talking about?

KSTC's website still lists AntennaTV as over the air on sub-channel 5-4. Looking at the online channel grid for Minneapolis it appears they pulled Channel 208 from the metro lineup also.

Maybe an contract issue for carriage by Comcast?

That better not be the case..Considering we were all told that they were already in transition. Channel 247 still says KSTP2 on it and if you press your select button on the show that's listed, it still says Coming Soon Antenna TV. I really wish they would get on the ball and get it straight for a change.

Re: what happened to ch. 247 KSTP-News (Minneapolis)?

Hopefully they get it straight. But it looks like KSTP DT2 got pulled from the Minneapolis system. Doesn't even show up on the online channel listings using the Minneapolis zip code.

Which made me think it is some sort of carriage/contract issue. Or maybe just a mixed signal being feed into that channel.

Channel 247 doesn't even show up on the online channel guide using St. Pauls zip. KSTPDT2 still did on ch. 245 and the programming matched the ThisTV feed schedule on KSTCs website.

Someday someone will figure it out.

Quick search of some of those shows you listed has them coming from the LiveWellNetwork.

That is a ABC/Disney station. Doesn't show any affiliation with Hubbard but maybe they get the feed somehow.

Interesting.

Of course when I used the main St. Paul zip it didn't show channel 247 on the grid. Oh well.

That info you gave me may shed some new light on the subject. I do remember D. Rice at KSTC/KSTP talking about getting the LiveWellNetwork awhile back OTA in the near future so that's what probably happened. They're probably listing it on KSTP2 until maybe AntennaTV starts up. Or? Who knows, this gets more confusing all the time.

Very interesting. I don't remember seeing LivingWell on the web site.

They just listed MeTV (OTA, and the two Comcast channels) and AntennaTV (OTA channel only).

Wonder if they are dropping ThisTV or just adding LivingWell to another sub-channel?

It does get confusing. Thanks for that information from KSTP.

I heard back from the Comcast Minnesota team on this. Based on agreements with the TV stations, there are plans in the works now to add the following:

  • KTSC Antenna TV (will be on channel 208 in Minneapolis and channel 247 in St. Paul)
  • KTSP Live Well (will be on channel 206 in Minneapolis and channel 252 in St. Paul)

Those changes are expected to occur in October.

There are required internal processes and required customer notifications that impact the lead times anytime a channel is added, changed or removed. Those items usually drive the dates.

The date may also be a contractual one with the TV stations based on the agreement. We are also required to steer clear of any changes around ratings periods (sweeps), listed below:

JULY 2012    June 28, - July 25, 2012
NOVEMBER 2012    October 25 - November 21, 2012

We are also not scheduling any non-critical work during the Olympics (through August 13).

Thanks ComcastTeds..I know you're trying your best to help, but as far as letting customers know ("required customer notifications") about impacts about channels added, changed or removed in your words.. what started this whole entire thread? Customers weren't told anything about the rewind channel KSTP2 Comcast 247 ending...Where was the required internal processes then? And as far as if it's a contractual problem with the Antenna TV station, I highly doubt it..They were also led to believe from the so-called "Comcast team" here in Minnesota that Comcast was ready to air back on June 14th. Nonetheless, It would really amaze me when in October If I didn't hear the excuse "oh..a couple of more months..."  That's getting old and tired..

If a channel goes off the air or out of business without the required notification timeline, there is not much that can be done about that.

Otherwise there are required federal and usually local franchise requirements that surround the addition, deletion or moving of any cable channel.

The channel content on the two subchannels was completely changed by the local broadcasters; that usually triggers new negotiations, new contracts and new timelines.

The reason for the delay in adding the two new channels (they are new to this cable lineup) is likely shared with both Comcast and the local TV stations.

Exactly my point! Comcast here in Minnesota was notified by both letter and by phone from KSTC 2 months before June 14th.  I guess that would have gave them (Comcast) a hunch that something was about to happen..

I am off the Minneapolis headend. After the on screen announcement for Antenna TV on channel 208 came up a couple of days later the channel itself disappered from my lineup. Outside the metro area near Mankato region.

Does Channel 208 still show in the Minneapolis channesl? I can't even enter it in with the keypad

kovack can you still see Ch. 247?

Latest channel lineup from July lists Antenna TV on ch. 208.
