Not sure if this is the right forum; I've had Comcast mail configured on my iPhone4 since the day I bought it. No problems... until this week. I had to change my main Comcast email (Xfinity site) password... it had been so long, that my old password was all lower-case and numbers... now Comcast requires mixed case and numbers. So I created a valid password, and was able to log into Xfinity web mail on a PC browser. Knowing my iPhone wouldn't have the new password stored, I went to update it, and ever since then, I cannot get it to recognize me---after 30 seconds of trying to Verify... it comes back with user name/password not correct. I've deleted the entire Comcast setup on the iPhone Mail settings, and rebuilt it, several times---it never works. Comcast Tech Support was not able to suggest anything.
The only variable in this entire process is that now my Comcast password is mandatory mixed-case. Even though I type it in mixed-case during the iPhone Mail Settings - Setup New Mail, I'm starting to wonder if mixed-case passwords are incompatible now, with the iPhone setup?
Any thoughts, advice, tips, tricks would be hugely appreciated... I can access my Comcast email by the Comcast website on the iPhone's web browser---and any PC web browser---but I can't now use the iPhone Mail feature, as I had been happily doing these last 2 years or so...

I have the same problem with my iPhone and iPad. I called Apple and they had my try a bunch of things all of which were unsuccessful. They referred me to Comcast.

I work for one of the cellular providers and I have customers coming in with the same problem. They have been trying for a week to get theirs to work. Have not had any luck getting any comcast.net email to work on any phone, through the native email or the app.

Does anyone know whether or not someone from Comcast monitors these threads for new issues like this, to take action?
04-07-2012 08:49 AM
Having same issue with Wife's account. Once she changed comcast password it no longer works.
My account works fine, since I haven't reset it yet.
So is this a comcast or iPhone issue

I called Comcast and they refuse to believe it is an issue with them even though I have the same problem with my iphone and Windows mail.

just chiming in .. same problem here on my wifes Iphone. ...she's only had it a week, but last week upon purchase during the setup and all this week its worked fine, until yesterday. following advice of others here and deleted acct and re-entered info.. no dice.
secondarily, I wasn't aware comcast has a new password requirement.. my wifes email is one of my secondary accts, but both she and I still have the 'old style' passwords, and I get my email fine thru eudora on my pc, thru my HP touchpad and thru my palm pre phone..
so comcast hasn't sent us an email or somehow made us change our emails....

On April 6, 2012 8:30AM my iPhone, my laptop and my desktop machined stopped sending and receiving email from Comcast.
Comcast service rep lied to me last night about his iPhone working with Comcast email. It doesn't! I say the following not to boast, but to establish a degree of credibility… I teach CS at Virginia Tech, I have a web network company as well as a software development company. My mobile device software has won international software awards; I am a patented inventor in mobile device user interfaces. Comcast can bury its head in the sand, but you all messed up with millions of users of iPhones, iPads, Outlook Express, Outlook 2010 etc. This stuff goes viral in minutes and some of us know more about this stuff than the lackeys you hire as service reps. they are the face if Comcast to the world. I Googled it with the heading above and its viral… It’s a problem all over the world. Comcast should constantly monitor the web to see what is being said about Comcast. This customer site has more information on the problem than their reps, but nothing about how to fix the problem. I am checking my Droid Razr next to see if it works as it used to with Comcast… Does anyone have a work-around yet?

Had the same issue starting on the 5th of April. Took the same measures, deleting the Comcast account on the iPhone and trying to redo the account. Checked setting on Comcast etc... The iPhone will let me setup my wife's account and other comcast account on my iPhone... This leads me to believe this is a Comcast issue. Here is what I have done to get a quick fix:
Setup a new Comcast Email
Edit the Comcast Email account that has been affected to forward all Emails to new Email Account
Setup iPhone to new Comcast Email
The Primary Comcast Account was the only account affected in my case. Thus I cannot just Delete the account and recreate the account. One question to anyone else, is the Primary Comcast Account the only account having issues?
04-07-2012 04:54 PM
Same issues.
Changed password and now I cant use outlook express or iphone on secondary account.
Primary account still works with old password.
Comcast - Please resolve this.

listen up everybody!!
I found this thread today and after not finding the solution I tried the following and it worked!!!:
first, I tried setting it up one (1) more time but with the wrong password. ( i know, it seems stupid)
and I dont know if the following is relevant but >> i signed out of my e-mail from the browser<<
then I tried it from the settings tap with the correct password ( by now, when you get back to the settings/mail, contacts, calendar/add account, you should have the message saying it was incorrect, and thats when you type in the correct password) and most likely you will enjoy getting mail from your idevice
again, that was just my case, but if it works for you, please let me know.

Unfortunately, iPhone Mail is not an app that can be uninstalled and reinstalled---I'm not talking about the Comcast Mail App you can download... just the built-in iPhone Mail feature... that is what no longer works in my case, while all browser-based email retrieval (Xfinity page, Comcast Mobile Login) work fine... So incredibly annoying that this is clearly a change due to Comcast, yet they take no responsibility for it.

Yesterday and today my comcast mail was spotty at best, coming and going with its ability to access my account and today it finally called it quits. The error was in incorrect username or password. I deleted the account set it up again. I even reset my password through comcast just to make sure that it was not a password issue.
The below message was posted in the Apple Help Forum:

I recently had to update my password for my Comcast email because it was too short. I am able to log in through the website, but the email no longer syncs to my phone. I have deleted the account and tried reinstalling it on my phone, but it says my username and password is incorrect. I have tried multiple times and have had no luck what so ever. And yes I am typing in the right username and password. Everything worked fine since until I had to update my password. I have done a google search and have seen other people are having the same thing happen to them, but there is no solution.

I just finished with a chat session with them. In short, they blame Apple. They said to download the Xfinity app from the app store and access email that way instead of using the mail app that came with the iphone. Comcast had no explanation as to why it happened to my iphone and ipad at almost the same exact time on April 6. I told them that there were numerous others with the same problem, but they seemed to ignore that fact.
I'm still not receiving my comcast emails on either my iphone or ipad. Has anyone heard of a solution?

Getting the same thing here at 4:00pm 4-8-12. I have 3 accounts on my iPhone, my Mac (iCloud) account and 2 Comcast account. I can receive mail on all three and send from my iCloud. I can NOT send on my two comast accounts, it keeps telling me the server is not reconized.
This seems to happen every few months for the past 4-5 years. It is NOT an Apple problem. I've had both of these comcast email accounts for over ten years, sometimes they work on the phone and sometimes they don't

Its not just apple products. My android (HTC EVO) cannot send e-mail but it can receive. I have tried several times to redo settings but no luck. I am experiencing this problem with the e-mail client that is built in to the phone so I cannot un-install n re-install it. Works fine on my lap top.

Ah, the joys of being a Comcast customer... Today, all Comcast mail functionality now works perfectly like before, on my iPhone, using the iPhone's own Mail feature.
So much for my 45 minute session Friday with a Comcast technician telling me it must be an "Apple problem."

The xfinity iPhone app works but doesn't reveal any settings so the iPhone app is dead
Which settings are you referring to? The settings are acessible from the main menu of the app.

Xfinity mobile app for iPhone/Android is a great alternative to the native mail functionlaity. It gives you more functionlaity and keeps your inbox synced with what's online.

I don't want to use the Xfinity mail app. I want to use the one that came with my iphone. It worked for two years until April 6 of this year and then it quit working. Comcast blames Apple and Apple blames Comcast. Neither Apple nor Comcast will take the inititiave to fix the problem. They just blame the other. The people that suffer are the customers.
If you can fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. I want my native mail app to work again. Please help!

I had to change my password and the problem came back, on all my computers (apple and pc) and my Iphone. Your service has become unreliable. Honest, are you guys working on a fix or do we all have to change providers here.

i have had the same issues. The only thing that has worked for me is installing the Xfinity app..
06-18-2012 06:47 PM
After I had to change my comcast password, I had the same issues everyone else describes on my iphone 4s with the native email app. It had worked fine on my phone for a year, then quit after the new password with the same error messages others decribed. The fix:
1. Delete the comcast accunt from your phone.
2. Add a new account through the wizard.
3. VERY CAREFULLY type in the password for BOTH incoming and outgoing email. Making sure you scroll down to both incoming and outgoing parts of the form/wizard is critical.
It worked like a charm. Good luck!

OMG, spoke too soon. I thought it worked, but it finally returned a Cannot Send Mail message. Grrrr.

My email stopped working on my iPhone on Friday, June 14th...and has been spotty as well. In the middle of the day, I'll get a bunch of emails that come through, and then that's it for the day. Sometimes the phone will even beep with my email alert tone, but there's nothing in my inbox! I only have 1 email address/account and it is through Comcast...so there's no chance that it's conflicting with another email account.
I downloaded the xfinity app so I could at least have access to my emails...I think it's a conspiracy on Comcast's part forcing everyone to download their app!
Anybody have anything on this yet?

For what its worth, the "The sender address xxx@comcast.net was rejected by the server" message started when my iPhone was upgraded to a 4S/OS5. Therefore, I am not convinced this is solely a comcast problem. I get my comcast messages just fine. I just can't send them. Unfortunately, the iPhone dialog does not say what server is having the problem. My hotmail, gmail and exchange messages go out with no problem. So my bandaid is to open the rejected message in the outbox, change the 'from' to one of my other accounts to get the comcast message to send.
07-20-2012 12:53 PM
Also, my first impression was that it was an AT&T server problem (can't say why, other than several months ago I got a cryptic letter from ATT saying something about their e-mail server). Is anyone having this problem not on AT&T?

Same problem except it's my ipad. Stopped working August 4, 2012. Because it's an Apple product and I have no problem on my laptop, Comcast says it's not their fault. I deleted the email account and rebuilt it and it worked 1 time and then stopped again.

Have found since that the Comcast app works without a problem, so I gave up on my previous ability to read from both of my accounts through the single Mail icon.
