All my setttings are correct. This problem just started today Thursday 05-13-10. Is Comcast having problems with outgoing mail?

How can your settings be correct (i.e. match what is in the post I had the link for) when the outgoing port is get to something other than 25 in that post????
It sounds like there is a port 25 block on your modem. You should have received an e-mail in your primary Comcast e-mail account telling you of this block (although Comcast is not great about doing that for all blocks).
If this is the case, then you will have to switch from port 25 for your outgoing mail.

You may have missed a setting as they have worked for others successfully. Please double-check your work.
What error message are you now getting since you made the change in the settings????

Looks like you missed step 19: check “My server requires authentication”

F.W.I.W. I use Outlook Express & Outlook with these settings, and have used the same settings for years now.
Outgoing (SMTP) 465 SSL ON
Incoming (POP3) 995 SSL ON
'This server requires authentication' is ticked.

Thank you it works now! I was just wondering when Comcast made these changes. Everything was working on the old settings as of yesterday.

Here's a table that might help:
| SMTP (sending mail) | |||
| port | unencrypted | STARTTLS | SSL/TLS |
| 25 | yes | yes | no |
| 587 | yes | yes | no |
| 465 | no | no | yes |
Port 25 maybe blocked on your modem in which case one should have received an email from comcast saying so and would need to switch to port 587.
SSL and TLS are encryption protocols and will only work on port 465. STARTTLS is an email (smtp, imap, pop, etc) protocol.
Basically the difference between STARTTLS and SSL/TLS is that STARTTLS initially connects to the server unencrypted and then switches over to TLS encryption whereas SSL/TLS initiates the connection directly with (either SSL or TLS) encryption.
Hope that helps.

aorapal:
If the OP's port 25 was blocked, don't you agree that the OP should run a full virus scan of his PC as well?

PS Neat little table, we'll use it too. ![]()

Hey CCCarole, thanks for the feedback.
And yes, I do aggree, if port 25 is blocked it is a very good idea to check for infection.
