Cannot attach a file in email when using Internet Explorer Version 8

Just recently, I have encountered a problem in that I cannot attach a file in email.  I get as far as getting the Browse screen for the file and selecting the file, but when I click the Attach File button, the screen freezes up.

In reporting this to Comcast, they've told me my problem is that I am using Internet Explorer Version 8 and they do not support it.  I've been told to install a back level of IE or download a different browser.

I consider this an unsatisfactory response on the part of Comcast.  I have had IE V8 installed for some time with no problems until just recently with attachments or anything else.

Has anyone else had this problem and come up with any solution?  I can use my Yahoo email account with no problem and attach file with IE V8.

Re: Cannot attach a file in email when using Internet Explorer Version 8

I can tell you that I have used IE8 since it was available, but I do know that it is not supported by Comcast (yet)  I don't have any problems attaching or embedding pictures in Smartzone.  I also have Firefox browser on my pc and that works as well.  You may want to test by installing Firefox, just to test if it works... You can always uninstall it if you choose to.  OR- depending on which operating system you have, you could set p an e-mail client (outlook Express, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail)

What size are the .jpegs you are trying to attach in an e-mail?

Do you use XfinityConnect? The Full or Lite version?
Do you use an email client? Which one? (Eg; Windows Live mail, Outlook, a smartphone etc.)
Which browser/version do you use? And- have you cleared your browser cache?
Which operating system? XP, Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X

Re: Cannot attach a file in email when using Internet Explorer Version 8

I am not trying to attach jpeg files...just Word or Excel files that are small in size.  I have a hard time understanding why IE V8 is not yet supported when it's the most current version available.  I don't feel I should have to download alternative browsers or use alternative email systems to have this function correctly with Comcast.  They need to fix their problem.

If others are having problems, please contact Comcast to get them working on this.

I am sorry I misread your post.  But- same as my earlier response, I am not having any problems attaching any files, .docx, Excel, etc.  What size are the files you are trying to attach?  There is a limit of 15MB total, but goes down to 10MB due to the other information beside the actual e-mail itself.  Is this happening with every small attachment you try to attach?

Re: Cannot attach a file in email when using Internet Explorer Version 8

Carol, this is happening with any file I try to attach.  I just tried one that is 24KB...it's just a one-page flyer in Word.  I get as far as the browse screen, I select the file, then hit the Attach File button.  It says it's "Attaching File", but then freezes up.  I can recreate this problem when starting a new email with nothing put in as text, but simply by first trying to attach a file.

So far, I've had the Comcast support people tell me to delete my history files, cookies, etc. in my browser, download Firefox or Mozilla instead of using Internet Explorer, and then the last one said to check my screen resolution for my browser..that it should be 1024x768.  Mine isn't by the way...it is 1280x800, but I really don't think that has anything to do with this problem.  I was able to attach files just fine (with IE V8) until just recently.  I can still do it when using my Yahoo email account.

Re: Cannot attach a file in email when using Internet Explorer Version 8

I don't know how to check for plug-ins.  How does one do that?

As far as toolbars, I clicked on View and Toolbars and the ones that are displayed are:

- Menu Bar

- Command Bar

- Status Bar

- My WebSearch Bar (which was added, but attachments have worked in the past with it active)

Is that what you meant?

I'm not sure what else you may be looking for.

I am using Windows XP.  Have the McAfee security software downloaded from Comcast.  We have 3 Comcast email accounts set up and the attachment function is a problem with all of them.  I also have a Yahoo email account that I access from the same computer and attaching files works fine with that account.
