Email Attachments

Recently, I have not been able to attach files to my outgoing emails, Word documents or pictures. What's up? Do I have something turned off my mistake?

What are you using for email?  Smartzone?  An email client?  What is the size of the attachments you are trying to send?  Do you receive an error message at all?  If yes, please post the complete error message.  The Comcast limit for email is 10MB's.

Do you use XfinityConnect? The Full or Lite version?
Do you use an email client? Which one? (Eg; Windows Live mail, Outlook, a smartphone etc.)
Which browser/version do you use? And- have you cleared your browser cache?
Which operating system? XP, Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X

Re: Email Attachments

I am using Smartzone, and my Word document is less than 1MB. When I try to attach the file after locating it and putting it in the Browse window, the window says it is attaching the file, but after 5 minutes it still has not performed the function.

Dave, Try clearing your cache, then reopen SZ & try again. Which browser are you using ( & version)

Is this a document file?  Anything unique about the content?

Re: Email Attachments

Carole,

I got it to work by cleaning up the cache (too much History!), and by sending one document (6 M:smileycool: at a time. I think the person sending me the document used a camera instead of a scanner. Thanks, so much for the help; you were great!

Dave, Super! You are very welcome.  Glad you got it working.  You might want to consider setting your browser to clear history when you close your browser too.:smileywink:

raybrunner08,

The answer depends on what browser you are using.  The link below is clickable, and provides info on many popular browsers.

Re: Email Attachments

roz1,

You aren't providing much information.  How large is the attachment you are trying to send?  If it's much over 10 MB, that's your likely issue.  Please respond with as much detail as possible about what you are trying to send, and what happens (error message details, please) when you do.

Re: Email Attachments

I am suddenly not able to upload attachments to an email I need to send tonight.  I read the solution to another of the same question and you told him to clean out his cache - sorry, but what is a cache and where is it?

Re: Email Attachments

Web browsers keep a local copy of some of the pages you've visited so that when you go back to them, they don't need to load everything again. They keep that info in a "cache". How you clear the cache varies from web browser to web browser. It's often a menu option under the main menu.

This page tells you how to do it in many web browsers. It has pictures:

   http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache

Another quickie approach would be to try another web browser.

Be sure that your attachment isn't too big. If it's more than 10 MB (the panel says 15MB limit, but when it's uploaded, your file may get bigger), you need to make it smaller.

Re: Email Attachments

I am having a problem attaching pictures to email.  I am shrinking my jpegs to around 800kb but the attach still times out after I hit the attach button.  When I compress much more I get a lot of pixelation in the picture.  What can I do?

Thanks

Are you trying attaching more than one jpeg per email?  The limit is 10 MB's per email.

Which version of XfinityConnect please?  Full or lite?  To check:  Click on Preferences> General icon.  Which one is ticked?

Have you cleared your browser cache?  Which version of Internet Explorer?  Hve you tried resetting your browser back to the default settings? (Tools>Internet Options> Advanced tab)

Have you tried a different browser such as Firefox?

Re: Email Attachments

By cache do you mean 'sent', trash, etc. file. Also what is SZ?

I use Explorer 6, Windows XP, full version, I guess, of Xfinity connect. My email client is Comcast cable. I have been using this for years, no problem with attaching text files or photos to my emails. Now when I try to atache either  a small file or small photo, it says it can't be attached. It

doesn't give any reason. The only change I made was to reinstall Windows XP, no change to my

Xfinity account.

Just had a message saying that my post has been changed because an invalid HTML was found in the message body. If such was the case, it didn't come from me, it had to come from the forum some way?

Re: Email Attachments

Hello

Are you able to login to your email from a different browser, other then IE6? Could you see if you're experiencing this same email attachment issue using Firefox or Chrome?

Do you happen to know the attachment type which you are trying to send?

http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/limitations-on-sending-email/ also says that you can't send a message larger than 25MB, and you can't send .vbs, .pif, .scr, .bat, .com, .cmd, .msi, .reg files.

Re: Email Attachments

Seems Comcast has an upper limit on emails held in the account ... not the amount a customer pays to use, but the limit that stops allowing Attachments when exceeded.  Three times over several days, I got no response for clicking Attach on the bar.  Each time when I deleted recent messages on email, I was allowed to Attach.
