Emails not leaving my outbox

Emails are not leaving my Microsoft Outlook 2007 outbox.  Emails are coming in ok but not out. I get the following error msg: I guess you will not see the error msg as this comment box will not allow me to paste it. Another plus for comcast.

I says something like this:The server responded: 554 omta22.winchester.pa.mail.comcast.net comcast Message sending error.

I copied all my out going emails to my laptop, took them to my neighbprs house who has verizion fios and sent them from there with no problems using his Email.

Frustrated,

Bob

When you can't paste using the mouse, Ctrl-V usually works.

Ctrl-V didn't work either.

Re: Emails not leaving my outbox

Was on the phone for over an hour with a Comcast Tech. We went thru the checklist above many times. Nothing improved. The tech thinks the sending server may be down and to check tomorrow to see if I have the same problem. Hummm, still discussed with Comcast. I'll have to use my neighbor's Verizon to send my emails until tomorrow. Maybe I need to switch to Fios too. This has been broken since around 10:00 AM  19 Sep 2011.

Did the error message include this URL: http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/VBOB ? If so, Comcast thinks you've been sending "too much" email lately, and they've suspended your ability to send email for 24 hours. Comcast limits you to 1000 recipients per day; have you gone over that? If not, you might have a spambot running on your computer.

Re: Emails not leaving my outbox

Yes I did get http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/VBOB', but this gave another error message saying something like "Article Could Not Be Retrieved".  No help there.

I have not sent out that many messages at one time. Maybe I sent out that many in the last year total. I have requested bids from 15 companies in China for a company project.  Is Comcast censoring who I send mail to?  O my!  Perhaps time for me to look around...

Remove the apostrophe from the end and it should work. Hello, Comcast, shouldn't you fix that?

I don't know exactly what their criteria are when they decide you've sent "too many" emails, but it sounds like *you* haven't been sending them, so I'd be thinking in terms of your computer being compromised and being used by spammers.

Well, when you receive that error, Comcast dosen't even know who you're trying to send email to. And why would they care who you send email to?

[ComcastJordan] Steve, what would you like us to fix?  In reading through the thread, it just appears a stray apostrophe was added to the URL by someone typing it in manually.  The URL is up and working properly.

[ComcastJordan] We limit customers to sending 1000 emails per 24 hours.  If that's the error that was returned then there is very likely a concern of a compromised computer.  We'll double check there isn't an issue on our side.

[ComcastJordan] we do not filter email based on destination.  You are welcome to send to any recipient in any country.

Re: Emails not leaving my outbox

It's going on the third day and I am still unable to sent email from my Microsoft Outlook 2007 thru Comcast.  Receiving email is working fine, but I just can't answer or create outgoing emails. I worked with a Comcast Techie for over and hour and no results....  We went thru changing out going SMTP from 587 to 465. That didn't work. It was changed back to 587, still didn't work. He had me change the encrypted connection from tls to ssl, that din't work either. I feel someplace someone is blocking my outgoing emails.

I wonder why I should continue pay for service from Comcast?

If i was blocked by Comcast, why wasn't I told by email, phone, etc?

The apostrophe in this post certainly looks like it came from a copy/paste. Add to that the fact that folks get a 404 when they click on the link and I'd say that that wasn't a "stray" apostrophe.

Edit: I was just plain wrong about this. The apostrophe (a single quote, actually) is added by the email client when it creates the error message. Comcast has nothing to do with it.

Maybe your ability to send email was restored, but then revoked again due to spammer activity.

None of that is relevant, your email client settings weren't the problem.

Right, Comcast is blocking them, as stated in the (edited) URL.

You were sorta told in the (fixed) URL that came back in the error message from the Comcast server. Hopefully Comcast will fix that URL so others in the future will be able to get a handle on what's going on.

Hard to tell without seeing the raw data Comcast sent. The relevant text in the post you mentioned reads

    Server Response: '554 omta05.westchester.pa.mail.comcast.net comcast

Message sending error. Please go to http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/VBOB'

That looks to me as though the server-supplied text was

554 omta05.westchester.pa.mail.comcast.net comcast Message sending error.

    Please go to http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/VBOB

and the client slapped a pair of single quotes around it. (The URLs should not be hyperlinked, since they probably would have been supplied in plain text, but I couldn't get the editor to cooperate).

Who wants to volunteer to turn on logging and send out 1,001 messages so we can see exactly where that rogue apostrophe is coming from?  :-)

Re: Emails not leaving my outbox

This is the error message as received. Notice the single quotes included with the message. I did NOT add anything.  P.S. Verizon/Fios Rep is coming to my house next week.

Task 'xxxxxxxxxx@Comcast.Net - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC6F) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).  The server responded: 554 omta22.westchester.pa.mail.comcast.net comcast Message sending error.  Please go to http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/VBOB'

That page says you're exceeding the sending limits listed here: http://customer.comcast.com/Pages/FAQViewer.aspx?Guid=2fcfc017-8dc5-4464-945c-fe5ec58d9d4d. It's possible that your system is infected with a virus that sends spam. Have you run a full virus scan on your system? If you have a wireless setup, it's possible you have a freeloader using your internet connection to send spam. In that case you would need to secure your wireless.

If you feel your system is not infected and that you are not exceeding the sending limits, you might give Customer Security Assurance a call http://xfinity.comcast.net/constantguard/Support/ and ask for their advice.

Right you are. I feel silly now. Sorry about that, Comcast.
