Re: Have questions or comments about the new webmail? Please post them here

Can a change be made to keep folders "expanded" if desired? If you click on one of "+" marks to see your other mailboxes or folder it automatically returns to "compressed" once you go to another view. It would be nice to be able to keep these other folders and/or mailboxes visible if desired. Thanks.

Re: Have questions or comments about the new webmail? Please post them here

even though i have posted this elsewhere, since this topic is sticky and official about comments on new webmail:

PLEASE SUBMIT THIS TO DESIGN TEAM:

i do not like how 'reply' to a message launches a new window. i run ccast webmail client from Outlook web browser and due to the "new window" that launches i have to:

1. enter user/pass after i have clicked 'reply' in the new window that is launched, then
2. leave that window open
3. go back and click 'reply' again to type my message

the old version launched in the same window so i did not have this problem.

this is not the case if i am using normal web browser, BUT compatibility w/ MS Outlook SHOULD be a concern of any company involved w/ web/ISP/email.

i would not be opposed to "new window" IF AND ONLY IF the cookies used to authenticate the user could be set to be propperly handled w/ Outlook.

i think a "Switch to Classic View" or "Switch to text-only" option would be acceptable too, where "text only" version launches 'reply' in same window

--end of feature request--

What is being done to FIX this horrid mess. The "designers" evidently never heard of the expression "If if ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Go back to the previous version.

And PLEASE stop recommending an upgrade to IE 6. I'm on a Macintosh G5 and use Safari.

This is getting O-L-D.

Re: Have questions or comments about the new webmail? Please post them here

HELP!!!
With the new webmail, I sometimes get email from a friend, who is also a Comcast member using Outlook Express, which I cannot see! I see the addresses he uses, but no text is seen. If I switch to Outlook Express, the text comes through fine. When I go back to Webmail, the text still is not there!
I have checked the webmail with several computers - same results.
I can't blame this on the new webmail, but it never happened before!!! It started about a week ago...

Another two days, and further complaints. What are you guys at Comcast doing???? I've lost a week of email processing. I now join the others who have asked that you return to the old program. Wouldn't it be easier than finding the many bugs? And then you can rewrite and properly TEST before implementation.

Re: Have questions or comments about the new webmail? Please post them here

If your local gas station worked the way Comcast webmail interface worked.

A venting story by a loyal Comcast Subscriber.

Bob drove the company car to work and home each day.

His company, in order to control costs, did all the company car maintenance at their central garage. Employees were not allowed to do car maintenance and were only allowed to get gas at the "Comcast Station".

One day Bob drove into his local "Comcast Station"to fill up his tank. It was a typical day for Bob, he was late and in a hurry to get to work.

As he was filling the gas tank the LCD display on the gas pump flashed the proud message, "Comcast has brought you a new improved fuel... better than the gasoline you have been using. Please let us know what you think".

Bob was surprised that Comcast was making this change. Whenever they had made these type of changes in the past he always got a flyer in the mail letting him know.

Anyway, Bob was in a hurry. He jumped in his car and turned the key. Nothing happened. His car would not start.

Bob went in to talk to the manager of the Comcast Station.

"Hey, since I filled up with your new fuel stuff, my car won't start." "Any idea what's going on?"

"Oh!" said the manager,"have you had your fuel filter changed lately?"

Bob said, "I don't know, the company takes care of that. I'm not allowed service the car".

"Well that's to bad" said the manager. "We can't gaurentee our new fuel will react well with old unsupported fuel filters." "I mean what kind of moron would continue to drive a car with an out of date fuel filter" "It just doesn't make sense."

"What do you mean it won't react well?", Bob asked.

"Well, when that new fuel hits the old fuel in the fuel filter, it will cause a reaction which will keep your engine from running", said the manager. "But don't worry, we can change out your fuel filter, we'll even do it for free."

At this point Bob became a bit perturbed. "I told you, I am not allowed to service the car. The company insists on controlling any changes made to this vehicle. I am late and I have to get to work. What would you suggest if I can't change the fuel filer?" Bob asked.

The manager looked down at the ground. "Well there's a bus due by here in 15 minutes."

What happening to searching?

I mostly am very pleased with the new Webmail interface. But I can't find where I can search for messages that contain a certain string.

Was the ability to search for messages removed?
Or am I having a brain malfunction?

Thank you

I have found that the original message is not included in replies even when direected to be, and also that one cannot cut and paste from sent mail, or change fonts.

DO NOT like the new webmail at all. It is LESS functional.
This makes no sense.

Re: Have questions or comments about the new webmail? Please post them here

I had a small problem with attachments. I'm using the webmail, and in the inbox it shows there's an attachment with the paperclip icon. But when I clicked to read the e-mail, it didn't show a way to access the attachment at all. I clicked to forward the e-mail and was then able to retrieve it, but I noticed that there were two - the first was a multipart/alternative and was not viewable, the second was the actual attachment. I'm assuming it was that non-viewable one that prevented the other from showing, but is there a way to fix that? I'm using IE 6.0 and Windows XP Home (I've also tried Windows 2000).

As for my opinions on the new interface - I like it better than the old one. The colors are a bit bland, but it feels more sophisticated than before. I would say I have young eyes, and therefore don't have a problem with the contrast between text and window color, but the Storage bar is much too light and needs to be darkened.

I get a lot of spam mail, and always use the Report As Spam feature, but I'm not sure if it works since I keep getting the same kind of spam every day. Perhaps it takes a while for the computer to figure out what to block? And yes, I made sure the Enable Spam Filtering option was on Yes.

Under Email Options there's an Email Controls link which says you can "Restrict incoming mail to a specific list of senders." The only thing I found pertaining to that was getting e-mail about Comcast promotions and whatnot. I was hoping to limit my incoming mail to people only in my Address Book or from another list I specified. Did I miss a link somewhere?

Luckily I haven't had any problems sending mail (except once when it sent 20 copies of an e-mail to some recipients..not sure why) but I wanted to make sure these issues were known.

Thanks for listening!

The issue I have with the new webmail is that when
I reply to an email I want an option of quoting
the original text or not. That is , without having
to delete the original text manually. There should be
a button to quote/not quote or an option in your
webmail setting.

Re: Have questions or comments about the new webmail? Please post them here

Ok, well, I have two issues:
One: I cannot update my e-mail preferences like signature, etc. It keep saying something about how there was an error with the server...?
Two: All my e-mails are messed up...they look like what some would say "choppy" I can't think of a more appropritate word at the moment, but they are not legible...that really needs to be fixed.
Is anyone else having these problems? Or, does anyone have any solutions to them?
Thanks...

Re: Have questions or comments about the new webmail? Please post them her

To all,

I wanted to let you know that the webmail developers are addressing all of the webmail issues and feature enhancements that have been reported here. Unfortunately not all of the issues have been resolved at this time and it appears that the major problem mentioned here is the inability for some to use some of the buttons at the top of webmail. Our developers will continue working until these problems have been resolved and I will post any information I get from the developers as soon as it becomes available.

In the meantime for those who are having problems deleting messages in your webmail, a temporary method to free up some space until the problem is resolved is to try selecting the messages you want to delete by placing a check in the box in front of each message in the list. Once the message(s) are selected, try to move the messages to the trash by pulling down the Move To Folder option on the top right of the list and select the Trash folder from the menu. Then click on the small trash can icon next to the Trash folder link on the left. This has been reported to work in several instances where individuals are having problems using any of the buttons at the top of the webmail screen.

Please post back if this delete method is not working.

when a message is sent, it appears in the "sent" file, bolded. When the bolding disappears do i assume this to be an indication that the message has been opened by the person who is was sent to?

Re: Have questions or comments about the new webmail? Please post them her

When a message appears in bold in your message list, it means it has not been opened by you (it is considered an "Unread" message). Once you open the bolded message to read it (in any folder), it will no longer show as bold because the message is now considered a "Read" message.

With this in mind, you are stating the messages arbitrarily go from bold to not-bold font without opening the message? If so, do you know if you or another family member may be accessing the email from the Comcast.net website or from another program like Outlook Express?

Hope this clears up any questions you have but post back if it doesn't.

Jason - in response to your suggestion about moving old emails to trash by hitting the little icon next to the trash button, problem is - there is no little trash icon and the system just does nothing. Literally can only read incoming emails and whenever you try to do anything else - it literally does nothing.

Re: Have questions or comments about the new webmail? Please post them here

Yes, that does work, but it DOES NOT free up space... they is no way to empty the trash can for those of having this problem.

For those of you at Comcast don't know this, the trash can contents still contribute to the overall usage.

My mailbox is almost 100% full. I can move mail to trash using the pull down menu, but I cannot send or reply using this method. Also cannot empty trash.

Therefore, it really is no solution. The best one I've found on these boards is by another user who suggested using web2mail.com - this is the only way I can send mail.

This whole situation is completely unacceptable. Didn't anyone test this?

Like the appearance of the new e-mail.

How about a "delete" box at the bottom of each message next to "previous" or "next" message! Then would not have to go back to the top of the message to delete.

Am still reviewing other features of the new e-mail.

Since the new web mail has been active I have had nothing but total satisfaction. As president of Phi Beta Lambda I have to send a lot of e-mail. The new system makes it easy for me to go directly to what I want. It is easier for me to see. I work on computers everyday, and after a while it becomes strenuous on the eyes but not with the new mail service. I think it is great!!!!!

Re: Have questions or comments about the new webmail? Please post them here

I very much dislike the new webmail interface for the following reasons (most of them apply to the previous interface as well):
1) There is WAY TOO MUCH SCROLLING:
- when viewing messages at the bottom I now have to scroll back to the top to do anything else. It used to be you could do everything when scrolled to the top or bottom of the list.
- The list of messages takes up WAY TOO MUCH VERTICAL SPACE, meaning that your "recommended" setting of 20 messages per screen requires a lot of scrolling. The list is not affected by text size settings in the browser.
- The use of screen space in general is very inefficient when viewing a message. By the time the controls and header lines (very space wasting) are displayed, almost every message needs to be scrolled to be read.
2) Perhaps the most rational way to view messages is from the oldest first because it's easier to follow a thread of messages from a listserve, for example. The interface GOES OUT OF IT'S WAY to make this difficult.
- DIRECT ACCESS IS GONE to groups of messages. Now I have to click Next,Next,Next,...,Next to get to the last of 113 messages, say. And the refresh time is usually very long so this is irritating to say the least.
- Then when I am there and viewing the oldest messages, I can't just delete the ones I'm not interested in and expect to view the next message in the thread. No, the next message IN THE LIST is displayed, which is the message OLDER than the one I just deleted. This means that I generally: delete...wait...previous email...wait.
- And of course there are no setting to invert the message order so oldest is first. That would solve problems for me for sure.

Re: Have questions or comments about the new webmail? Please post them here

Jason and Michael....Can you get the person in charge of research and development to look at this thread of complaints and respond? We haven't been able to do anything but read emails for the past several weeks. Deleting, sending, forwarding...even adding/editing address book entries won't work.

I manage a group of developers and would have them working around the clock to fix something that was causing this much trouble for our customers. I don't suppose you could publish the R&D Managers email....maybe some direct communication with them would get this problem fixed. Unless they're having problems with the new webmail also!!
