I strictly use Gmail on their web page, but I want to set Gmail up to come on Windows Live Mail for my mother so she is comfortable with it. I am in the process of getting rid of her worthless earthlink service and switching her to Comcast, but I want to be sure I can do what I want. I want her Gmail account to be her default account, so that when she sends an email, the return address is the Gmail one. I would prefer to use Gmail's IMAP server, but POP3 will do.
Thanks!

When you set up Windows Live Mail to work with Gmail you will not need the server information.
WLM will automatically configure itself to Gmail servers.
Before setting up the gmail account in WLM see this page for directions on how to enable gmail IMAP.
http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en
It's a very simple process. If WLM is not installed go ahead and install it.
After installation open may open automatically open and ask if you want to set up an account.
If needed you can click the drop down arrow on the dark blue tab on the left which has an image of an envelope.
Choose Options/Email Accounts/Add/Email Account.
Enter the Gmail address and account password.
You may get a message to enable IMAP for gmail. Ignore this message if you have already enabled IMAP.
Check the box next to Make this my default email account.
DO NOT CHECK MANUALLY CONFIGURE.
Click Next and it's done.

Thanks - that worked fine on my PC. There is something funky on my mother's PC, even though it is Win7 as well. It did not set up everything for me. That being said, I did manually enter pretty much the same settings. I think perhaps Earthlink is blocking something; it kept erroring out on send/receive. They are notoriously difficult. I'll copy the settings form my PC and give hers another try this weekend. Thanks.
