Invalid password POP3 Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

During the 2nd week of January 2012, I have been unable to logon to the Comcast email server "mail.comcast.net"

 with port numbers:

Outgoing mail (SMTP) = 587

Incoming mail (POP3) = 110

I just get the following error message:

Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid username/password', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

What do I need to do to solve this problem ? ?

Re: Invalid password POP3 Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

OK I tried the setting you suggested -- but now I get this msg

" Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19"

It looks like a time-out while trying to connect to the Comcast email server

I had better luck with my original settings so I'm going to switch back

because they have worked for me for several years on my

Windows Vista system running Outlook Express Version 6.0.6000.16386

I'm following Comcast's directions to change outbound port 25 settings to port 587 in Outlook Express

given in:

http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/configure-outlook-express-to-use-port-587/

but those settings get me back to this error msg:

Account: 'mail.comcast.net (1)', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid username/password', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Still stuck -- still need help to fix this !

Just FYI, you need to enable SSL on port 995. Your problem could be about someting that comes up once in a while, which is that Comcast "forgets" passwords from the point of view of the mailservers. Can you login to webmail? If so, the simplest thing to do might be to go to Account(at the top of the page)|Users and Settings and change your password. Don't forget to change it in your email client after changing it via the Comcast web site. If you can't login to webmail either, you'll have to call Comcast (1-800-COMCAST)

Re: Invalid password POP3 Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Just talked with Comcast Tech Support and got my problem fixed.

It turns out that the rules for passwords just got changed about 10 Jan 2012

The new requirements are:

8-16 characters. At least one upper case letter, at least one lower case letter, and at least one number or special character (! @ # $ % ^ & *) are required. No spaces. Case-sensitive.

So the password that I had been using over the past 3 years was only 6-characters long

and was suddenly invalid -- thereby totally blocking access to the mail server.

So the simple fix was to just replace my old password with a new valid one !

Good to hear others having same problems. I am not crazy or stupid after all.  I had to change my password for three days in a row, because EVERY one I changed to was ruled invalid the next time I logged onto Comcast, yet all achieved criteria. Ridiculous. Why not just send customers a notice on home page or special email advising this password change was going to happen. VERY aggravating, as per usual with Comcast.
