What's with Comcasts incoming SMTP Server for the past few days?

For the past few days, people sending me mail have called to say, "didn't you get my email?"

Nope. I haven't.

Then they started getting bounces like the one that follows below. I run an ecommerce site, and I've started to get bounces where order confirmations to people with comcast email addresses are not able to be delivered because it seems that the comcast servers are all "busy" or something. It looks like many of your email servers are not accepting connections (421: Try again later) See below for an example:

Example:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of
its recipients after 25 hours.

The message has not yet been delivered to the following addresses:

  <XXXXXXX@comcast.net>

SMTP error from remote server in greeting:
host mx2b.comcast.net[76.96.30.116]:
421 imta03.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net comcast Try again later
SMTP error from remote server in greeting:
host mx1b.comcast.net[76.96.62.116]:
421 imta11.westchester.pa.mail.comcast.net comcast Try again later
SMTP error from remote server in greeting:
host mx2a.comcast.net[76.96.30.116]:
421 imta03.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net comcast Try again later
SMTP error from remote server in greeting:
host mx1.comcast.net[76.96.62.116]:
421 imta11.westchester.pa.mail.comcast.net comcast Try again later
SMTP error from remote server in greeting:
host mx3.comcast.net[76.96.58.14]:
421 imta37.westchester.pa.mail.comcast.net comcast Try again later
SMTP error from remote server in greeting:
host mx1a.comcast.net[76.96.62.116]:
421 imta11.westchester.pa.mail.comcast.net comcast Try again later
SMTP error from remote server in greeting:
host mx4.comcast.net[76.96.26.14]:
421 imta35.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net comcast Try again later
SMTP error from remote server in greeting:
host mx2.comcast.net[76.96.30.116]:
421 imta03.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net comcast Try again later

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for
some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message
remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up,
and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

Re: What's with Comcasts incoming SMTP Server for the past few days?

Nobody else noticing these problems, because I know of others that I work with who have been experiencing this problem of people's emails not getting to them in a timely fashion as well and it's frustrating.

I've also received some, but not all of the emails that a business partner sent me yesterday, about mid-day today.

Given the specific errors I showed above, no answers from Comcast on this?  It's been a problem since yesterday at least and seems to be continuing today.

I emailed support at Comcast. no response yet.

Hi,

Is brickovenbaker.com the only domain you're having trouble receiving from?

Re: What's with Comcasts incoming SMTP Server for the past few days?

No. It's not. I've seen problems with email coming from SoftwareTime.com as well.

Which also uses 1&1 servers (perfora.net)

I don't know what else that I am missing, because if other emails are coming from other sending domains, then I won't know until they either bounce.

The other day, somebody mentioned how they didn't see my email from comcast, but they saw that I had replied to a group when a person on yahoo.com replied and included my email.  So my email got from comcast.net to yahoo.com, but it didn't get from comcast.net to verizon.net, and the verizon customer mentioned how it was weird that he never got my original email.

Hope this helps.  I just got a round of emails going back to my BrickOvenBaker.com account telling me that messages are delayed now for two days, and again, a long list of comcast servers that were attemped but are still returning 421: Try again later errors.

Re: What's with Comcasts incoming SMTP Server for the past few days?

Thanks for the additional information. It appears that the BrickOvenBaker.com server had been blocked due to what appeared to be directory harvesting. If you can post any more NDR messages for the other domains, that will be helpful as well.

Regards,

Adam

I spoke with 1&1 as well as checked our logs, and it appears the issue has cleared up.

Are you still seeing this issue/error?

Thanks,

Re: What's with Comcasts incoming SMTP Server for the past few days?

I'm having the same problem receiving email from a 1and1 domain in sending to several comcast users.  Can this be corrected too?

Thanks, Pete.

Re: What's with Comcasts incoming SMTP Server for the past few days?

Ya, this cropped up for me again as well in the last couple of days.

Funny thing was I emailed comcast support, providing them with headers from an email that hasn't been delivered in 24+ hours.

They wrote me back and directed me to this forum post and "The Forums team has been made aware of your issue."

So the "Forums team" is going to fix the mail servers?  Who knows.
