Why is it that on all of my other emails (i.e. MSN, YAHOO) all of the junk email goes to the junk email folder automatically. Even without me having to manually put them in the spam folder? I will tell you why, because they actually do their job in making customers aware that people are trying to scam (phish) them. So why is it that Comcast states they are safe when not a single spam email is every dealt with automatically? Worst part is I do not go to websites and use my comcast.net email, nor do I use them in local stores where I make purchases etc. And yet I still receive about 100 spam emails a week that easily find their merry way into my inbox only to be hopefully opened and the scam to begin. Luckily for me I know what emails to trust, but what about the people who do not....they are NOT safe with Comcast. It is even worse when I designate unwanted phishing emails to the Spam folder and the next day I receive the same email in my inbox. Awful job Comcast.net, fix your email system. Comcast email is about as secure as a bank vault that has no lock.

Is your Spam filtr enabled? Are you reporting those emails as spam so the filters learn them?
Need Email Help? Please post the following information in your post.
Do you use XfinityConnect? The Full or Lite version?
Do you use an email client? Which one? (Eg; Windows Live mail, Outlook, a smartphone etc.)
Which browser/version do you use? And- have you cleared your browser cache?
Which operating system? XP, Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X
Details of the problem you are having.

I have recently set up a Spam filter, however this is entirely too much for a standard user to have to create. With this filter you manually have to enter subjects that are often spam, etc. I use full Xfinity Connect, do not use an email client, use both FireFox (recent version) and Internet Explorer (recent version). Cache clears automatically and I have running Windows 7. The problem I am having is with my other emails such as Yahoo and/or MSN, these emails do not get through to my inbox. Why is it that my comcast email receives so much junk when it is CLEARLY junk. Why is it that I cannot even compare my experience with Yahoo to Comcast. I PAY for my Comcast account, Yahoo is free.....

I think you are referring to Email Filters. I was referring to the Spam Folder Preferences.
If you click on Preferences in XC, then click on Email on the left side, you will see Email Preferences with links as shown in the screenshot below. You can enable the Spam Folder there by clicking on the link titled, 'SpamFiltering/Confirmation'. You can set it to silently remove spam, or to leave a copy in the Spam Folder for your review.

BLCottrell,
Can you send me a private message with the email account that you're receiving all of this spam at?
We have a considerable amount of automated resources to try and filter, if not outright block connections from known sources of spam. As such, I'd be curious to see if there's a trend in what's getting through to your inbox and what we can adjust to try and help prevent it.
Private Messages (PM’s)
At the top of each Forum page you will see a small white envelope
This is the icon for Private Messages, referred to as ‘PM’s’. A Private Message is a way to communicate in private, to another User, Moderator, or Administrator out of public viewin the Forums.
The white envelope turns to yellow when you receive a PM.
To open a PM to read it, double click on the yellow envelope. If you click on the white envelope a window will open with tabs for your Private Message Inbox, Sent Messages, Friends, Ignored Users, and Compose new Message. You can also access this area by clicking on the Username in a Thread or post. By default, Private Messages are enabled. You can disable this feature in My Settings>Preferences> Private Messenger

Don't use comcast as your primary mail; I get about 60 spam messages daily and even though I have flagged them as spam it keeps coming back. Their mail really sucks!!

Holy buckets...I'm getting TONS of junk email on two of my comcast email accounts. At least ten a day on each. And every day, I move them to "spam". Doesn't help.
And now, just for fun, my email has been down for the past two hours. Plus our internet was down for three hours last night. And for this I'm paying close to $200 a month? Comcast, I think it's time for us to start seeing other people.

We'll have someone look into this issue and get back to you on why you're seeing the spam get through. Hang tight, we'll get back to you shortly.

05-10-2012 09:49 PM
I'd like to add my name to the list. I also have been getting tons of spam lately. I think it started about two months ago? I'd get 2 or 3 every other day, then every day and now I get 10 or 12 daily. My Mac mail downloads the email from the server. I have checked my Comcast email directly. It catches a some spam messages, about 20% maybe?
For while, I didn't report it until it got worse. I marked them as spam and deleted them server side. Then I remembered that I do that from my client by forwarding the email as an attachment to missed-spam@comcast.net. That is a lot easier. They seem to come in batches of three at around the same times each day.
Do I need to send my email address to anyone?
Thank you.
P.S... I agree. I have been a customer of Comcast for years and I have never seen it like this before.

Now this is just sad....I was getting too many "you have a reply" emails from you guys, so on the bottom of the email there was an innocent little link that said, "Unsubscribe from our emails" or something like that.
Clicked on it, and next thing I know I'm BANNED from this forum! Nice. Super super nice way of doing business.
This is being sent from my other email, which is also, by the way, receiving ridiculous amounts of spam.
Oh, and later today, I'm going to Target to buy a Roku. When I get that set up, I'm calling comcast and getting rid of cable. Then all I'll have left with you is internet. And I've heard good things about CentruyLink.

Over the past 6 or 8 weeks, the amount of spam being missed by the Comcast spam filter and coming into my inbox has increased dramatically. In the past 3 weeks alone, about 125 spam messages have been missed by the spam filter and delivered to me. They are pretty easily recognizable as spam. Nothing has changed in my use of my email address. What has changed in the Comcast spam filter and why has it become so ineffective?
05-15-2012 08:47 AM
We continue to work to improve our filters. Please continue to report spam through the Report Spam button in Xfinity Connect. These reports greatly help improve our overall filtering for all customer
05-16-2012 08:54 PM
I agree. The amount of very obvious spam has greatly increased in the last month. I hope Comcast can do a better job with their Spam filter. It's most annoying on my phone which doesn't filter as well as Outlook.
05-16-2012 09:03 PM
It is difficult to discern any improvement in the Comcast spam filter. Quite the opposite, it seems now to be missing a large volume of very obvious spam.
05-17-2012 08:13 AM
The eternal challenge is that obvious to a human is not always obvious to a machine. That being said, we are always working to improve our filtering. Are you reporting those spam messages? Such reports improve our overall filtering.
05-17-2012 03:50 PM
There was a recent step-function change for the worse in the amount of spam coming through the Comcast filter. It could be that Comcast made some change it has not yet explained and the results of that were negative, or it could mean that the spammer world got a lot smarter in very short time and Comcast can't react. Neither is acceptable.
If reporting the spam means making sure that the messages in my Comcast inbox are tagged as spam and moved into the Comcast spam folder, the answer is yes, i am reporting them and there they still sit in the spam folder. Now a question to you, what exact are you really doing about it?
06-05-2012 09:03 PM
I keep marking emails as spam but it does not help. Why my Microsoft Outlook spam filter can recognize same emails as spam and comcast filter don't????
06-05-2012 09:07 PM - edited 06-05-2012 09:08 PM
Again, missed Comcast spam is being cought by my Outllok email. Even Google works much better with 99.9% spam filter efficiancy. You need to learn from Google and Microsoft!
06-06-2012 12:27 AM
I've made it a practice to actually log into the web mail and report the spam for several weeks now but realized that there is no incentive to do so. Whatever system Comcast uses does not learn well from reported spam. It also does not "reward" me by blocking the spam accounts I report from my inbox. I will no longer take the extra time to log in and report spam but instead will start shifting my mail to a gmail account.
Whatever filtering Comcast uses is definitely not enterprise class or if it is, it is very poorly configured.

I can see that there is a huge amount of misperception in here about just how spam/junk mail filtering works. I subscribe to a newsletter put out weekly by a fellow named Leo Nottenboom. He is a computer/internet expert with many years of experience. He puts out some good stuff. One article in particular I will recommend to anyone on the subject of spam is here------------
It is an excellent piece, maybe the best I've ever read. It explains in plain language just how spam filtering typically works. In this particular case, he is responding to a question from one of his readers who was having trouble getting legitimate newsletter emails because his email provider kept blocking them as spam ---in this case Hotmail, but all ISP's and mail providers use this same technology. The article explains why it's so hard to pick out spam sometimes. It also explains the proper use of the "Spam" and "Not Spam" buttons.
So read the thing and you'll at least understand much better what is going on with junk mail. It applies to any mail provider, including Comcast. Also, there are some good related links to other articles at the bottom of the page.
06-06-2012 10:45 AM - edited 06-06-2012 10:46 AM
I don't see any spam in the inbox of gmail since spam goes to the spam folder. My outlook will atomaticlly move the spam that Comcast missed to the Junk E-mail folder. So Comcast needs to find a way to improve or learn from Google and Microsoft.
I marked hundreds of junk mail as spam but it does not seem to help they keep coming back.
06-06-2012 12:48 PM
heritagenj: We do use your reports, both Spam/Not Spam, to fine tune the message evaluation system. If you find that you're reporting spam, and similar messages are not being caught, please give us some details if you can. You can either post them in this thread, or send me a private message. Thank you.

RGold1960, From looking at what happened with these messages and where they were coming from, it appears these were mostly part of the same attack. The messages are now being marked as spam, in part thanks to folks reporting the messages as spam. The more diligent that everyone is with reporting Spam/Not Spam, the better the results should be for everyone. Let me know if you have any further questions or issues, I'm more than happy to help.
06-06-2012 02:16 PM
I have been marking these massages and others as spam for long time but it does not seem to help. Soon enough the spammers will find new ways to bypass your new filter.
I'm frustrated with Comcast since this happens for many years where Google and my Microsoft Outlook already found a way to fight this without asking me to mark emails as spam.
I'm using Android mail on my mobile devices and have both gmail and comcast. I never see spam in my gmail inbox, it's automatically going to the spam folder with out my intervention.
Thanks for trying to help.
06-06-2012 09:25 PM
Can it really be that we are supposed to upload spam message subjects here to get the filtering improved? How many would you like???
Have you already done anything with the hundreds I have marked as spam by taking the trouble to login into my comcast account? Really?
Our business uses Symantec Cloud tools, which work really well. Obvious Google has done something pretty powerful because nearly no spam gets though to my gmail account.
(a) What is Comcast really using now, and (b) what are the real ongoing action and plans for Comcast making a big improvement in this? The current Comcast spam filter results are pitiful.
06-06-2012 09:53 PM
If it helps,my most recent items are below. It seems that the very strange sender addresses by themselves should earn the messages a spam flag. I work as a consultant for a number of different entities and have email accounts in several of them. My City of Philadelphia email account which receives 20-30 legitimate emails/day gets less than 1 spam email/month and I've never lost a legitimate email (that I'm aware of anyway). They use Postini. Another client uses Barracuda Spam filtering and has pretty clean email without having to tweak anything. And I would echo the others that Gmail does a great job.
I get my mail on my phone and that's where i find it most annoying because I'm interrupted. When using my computer it's not a big deal since Outlook catches most of the spam.

All,
I want to thank everyone for commenting on this forum I created. I also want it noted that I created this 3/27/2012. I was surprised to get a response back from someone who works with Comcast, HOWEVER that begin said.....they ALWAYS gave me a half helpful attempt at making me understand why this spam is getting through. For the past two months NONE OF US have been remotely helped by Comcast in our issues with Spam. Is this issue so bad that not even customer support whom is supposed to be checking these "HELP" forums cannot help us. I want to close this out by stating I am receiving new types of Spam from some one posing as Comcast. Be careful, if anything from Comcast has a symbol before the name of the address that sent you the email it is not Comcast. How bad is it that people are trying to use Comcast emails to phish us in and Comcast cannot even prevent that....
06-07-2012 08:03 AM
BLCottrell, If you received such a message, did you mark it as Spam? Could you tell me when it was received or when it was reported? We really do utilize those Spam/Not Spam reports to fine tune the spam catching system. A message such as the one you describe is very serious and see what can be done to prevent this from happening again.
06-08-2012 06:16 AM
I have received an email message from a so called "Comcast" email about a dozen times each and everytime marking it as spam with no success as they seemingly pop up a few days later with another attempt to phish. I know that this Comcast email is fake due to the different symbols and misspellings of either the subject or email address. This is the problem I have created Spam filters manually (which should not be necessary) and they are successful until I get even more spam. I want Comcast to understand that I pay $119 a month for their service, I pay $0 for Yahoo which is my primary email, even used for Facebook and have NO issues. My Yahoo account catches ALL spam emails because they are CLEARLY spam. Never has an important email been sent into a Yahoo spam folder, nor has Spam email ever been received in my Inbox.
06-08-2012 08:44 AM
BLCottrell, could you send me a private message with the email address that these messages were sent to? Thank you.

See, there's the strange part. I almost never get Spam in my Comcast Inbox or spam folder. My Yahoo address gets bombarded with junk. I just looked at my Spam folder and I have almost 400 junk messages in there in the last 30 days! I don't get much in the Inbox, but I do get a couple once in a while. Also, I've found that Yahoo's filters can be fluky at times. There have been at least two or three times I know of, when suddenly emails from people in my contact list get schlepped into the Spam folder for no reason I can think of. Just now I looked through all those and found two that are legitimate. Just not from my address book this time.
YMMV

Yes, and those messages are now being marked as spam. We truly work constantly toward bettering the results of the filters. From what I see, the messages are not exactly the same, but I agree, they are similar and indicate a pattern. I'll look at these messages, and the ones you indicated from the other day, to see what more we can find.
Are these messages going directly to your inbox or your spam folder? Do you have the spam folder turned on?

I have spam folder turned on however, most spam goes to the inbox.
06-09-2012 03:31 PM
Totally agree. Minimum 30 SPAM e-mails per day, even AFTER the senders where reported as SPAM. The worst is COMCAST PC USERS virus alert.
06-11-2012 08:02 AM
I couldn't agree more. I Just returned from a week long vacation. Received over 30 spam messages in my one comcast acccount. Received none in my GMail accounts. If I didn't know better I would say that Comcast is intentionally allowing spam from those senders listed above. Comcast keeps changing apps in effort to get users to bundle phone services but doesn't put the correct effort into giving paying customers what they repeatedly tell Comcast they want, "...please NO MORE SPAM".

So from now on I not going to use Comcast email. I'll spend time to update my friends and family and other accounts to use on gmail. Comcast will keep collecting the cyber space junk...
07-11-2012 01:45 PM
I TOTALLY AGREE THAT COMCAST HAS THE WORST SPAM FILTERING ON THE PLANET!! Yes, I know how to use all their settings for spam and I have it all setup properly, but I still get spam in waves. I also know how to check the message in my inbox and designate it as spam, but that won't stop the same spam from coming again in the future. I've even setup some rules to move certain emails to spam which were all from the same sender, and Comcast had troubles doing that. Although that does seem to be working better now, I'm still amazed that they ever released a software system that couldn't even handle such a basic task.
However, the consistent problem of having very obvious junk mail go directly to my inbox rather than to my spam folder as I've indicated in my Comcast email settings, is absolutely ridiculous! I don't have this problem with gmail, hotmail, yahoo, or any other email I've ever used. Comcast should not need users to flag these emails as spam because they are so blatantly obvious as junk mail! This isn't some sophisticated spam, it's the common everyday spam that should be caught by a grandmother who never even used a computer. Seriously, "Dog Food Coupons", "Amazing E-Cigarette", and "Raspberry Ketone" don't look suspicious? Comcast should be embarrassed to even promote their email safety features when they can't even do this right. Again, I don't have this problem with any of my other email providers.
It's absolutely frustrating to have to clean out my Comcast inbox manually every day. To make matters worse, I use their Xfinity Connect app on my droid phone, and I have to deal with all the spam there too. Plus, when moving the junk mail to spam using that app, it didn't actually move it there. When I would access my email via the browser on my PC, the spam I thought I moved would still be there. (However, I will say that seems to have been fixed in the latest Xfinity Connect app, but I'm still aprehensive about whether that will remain so.)
Comcast needs to move this problem up the chain of command so that somebody with authority will make things happen and get this problem solved. It's existed for too long and obviously I'm not the only one having this problem.

Writing here will not solve this. We need to keep calling their 1-800 number and complain.

Moved for email address to a hidden forum. Complaining about spam and then posting an email address in a public forum will only get you more spam
