Xfinity Email and Windows 8

[ Edited ]

When configuring your mail on Windows 8, you may have received the error that Mail doesn’t support POP3 email accounts.

Microsoft Windows 8 does not currently support the POP3 protocol in its native mail client.  Since Comcast supports POP3, the Windows 8 native mail client is not compatible with Comcast mail.

To access Comcast email we recommend one of the following:

1)      Use Xfinity Connect web mail http://xfinity.comcast.net, then click email

2)      Use a mail client that does support the industry standard POP3 protocol (e.g. Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Live Essentials, Opera Mail).  Live mail essentials can be downloaded from:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/essentials-home

Once downloaded, the walkthrough for Comcast email is located at:

Additional mail client instructions are located here:

Users with Windows 8 who choose to use the native email client can opt-in to our Xfinity Connect Beta program to gain IMAP access to their comcast.net account.  The URL for the registration site is https://xcbetasignup.comcast.net/  Once registered your account will be moved to our Beta platform and will be accessible via IMAP within 72 hours.

Re: Xfinity Email and Windows 8

If you register for Beta, then once your account is migrated, you will receive an email with support information and a link to instructions for setting up Windows 8 native mail client.  For convenience below are the general settings:

imap.comcast.net 993 with SSL

smtp.comcast.net 465 with SSL

smtp.comcast.net requires authentication but not SPA (i.e. not secure password authentication).

These setting will not work unless you are on the Beta server.

You can switch back to POP3 at anytime by using the appropriate POP3 settings

pop.comcast.net (or mail.comcast.net) 995 with SSL

smtp.comcast.net 465 with SSL

smtp.comcast.net requires authentication but not SPA (i.e. not secure password authentication).
