Comcast email server is auto-filling an asterisk to the front of any email that I attempt to send from one of my account's email addresses, making the email undeliverable. Multiple conversations with different techs have basically resulted in me being told that this is not possible- I must be crazy.
I was hoping maybe another customer may be able to help me since Comcast cannot
Thanks

Why do you have an asterisk "to the front of" your email? What is Comcast "auto-filling" it with? More details, please.

"I" do not have an asterisk at the front of my recipient's email address. I am typing in a normal email address to send to, and the comcast email program (or something in my settings) when I hit "send" the system is auto-filling an asterisk in front of what I have typed as the email address- resulting in an undeliverable email. Since it bounces back in 0 seconds, I know that the email is not even making it out of the comcast system, it's being bounced back to me immediately, with no "blocked recipient" email addresses or any other information.
The techs at comcast are telling me that what I am describing is not possible.

Windows, Mac, or other? What version? Webmail or a mail client program? Have you tried rebooting?

The error message I receive is:

That asterisk isn't something that gets prepended when Comcast tries to send the email, it's something that Comcast just sticks into the bounce message. There's a space between the asterisk and the email address, right? What's going on is that Comcast tries to deliver the email but it's an invalid address so the recipient system refuses it. Here's what it looks like for an invalid address that I just sent to:
Delivery to the following recipients was aborted after 0 second(s):
* alksadjfalsdhfalsdkhjfaldhfldsfh@aol.com
There's more info in an attachment in the bounce. To view it, do "View Source", and you'll see the response from the recipient server, and see that the email was rejected by the recipient server. Something like:
Final-recipient: rfc822; alksadjfalsdhfalsdkhjfaldhfldsfh@aol.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.1.1
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 5.1.1 <alksadjfalsdhfalsdkhjfaldhfldsfh@aol.com>: Recipient address rejected: aol.com

ok, so it seems I misinterpreted the asterisk at the front of the email when the bounce back message came in. I'm obviously not very savvy about these issues, making my problem all the more frustrating since I cannot even describe it properly.
I'm not clear what you mean by "do "View Source" and you'll see the response from the recipient server"
Additionally, I've attempted to send mail to my own non-comcast email addresses, which I know are valid and they too bounce back in 0 seconds.... I've double and triple checked the email addresses I'm sending to and they are valid. I have no difficulty sending anything to them from other comcast accounts or from my non-comcast accounts... only this one, (very important to me) comast email account.
I am certain this is not a bad recipient problem. This is a comcast problem and most likely a simple setting in my one email account's preferences. I just don't know what or how to fix.
I do appreciate your help and the fact that other customer's are clearly more interested in helping me is incredible considering the money that comcast gets monthly from me. They are clearly not interested in helping me problem solve this issue.

I'm not clear what you mean by "do "View Source"
If you're using Comcast webmail, right click on a message in the message list view and select View Source. Email clients have their own way of doing things, but I think MS clients show the source in the "Properties".

I'm still gonna guess that that's the problem. What's in the Diagnostic-Code: line when you do the View Source? Also, to be sure it's not some strange Comcast problem, what's in the Reporting-MTA: line?
It might be about spam filters, or something like that, too, but before getting into pure speculation, let's take a look at the info requested above.

I can't think of a way any preferences could account for what you're seeing. Are you sending via using the Address Book? Maybe there's some corruption there. You could try deleting and reentering the address.

If not using Comcast webmail, if you'll tell us what program/version you're using we can provide instructions. Or Google "view source" plus the name and version of the program. In Outlook 2007 for example, right-click the message, choose "Other Actions", then "View Source".

We'll need to take a closer look at those. First let's try to get "view source" nailed down.

Following is the message that I receive when attempting to mail from the email account that is not allowing email to go through.
As I mentioned before, it's only one of my accounts that will not allow email to go thru, and I've attempted sending to email addresses that I know are good recipients- like my own email addresses that are not comcast related- and I have the same difficulty- bounce back in 0 seconds.
Again, any assistance is appreciated. this forum has been so much more helpful than the company itself already. At least other customers are not telling me that what's happening is impossible :)

Good, you have found out how to view the raw message. It would be best if you would remove the userid portion of any "real" addresses (ex: edit "myname@comcast.net" to "xxxxxx@comcast.net"). But what you posted seems incomplete: are there no more lines after "* abcdefg@aol.com"? The ones that would be most useful would look more like steve-baker's example in an earlier post:
Final-recipient: rfc822; alksadjfalsdhfalsdkhjfaldhfldsfh@aol.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.1.1
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 5.1.1 <alksadjfalsdhfalsdkhjfaldhfldsfh@aol.com>: Recipient address rejected: aol.com

If you could find similar lines in your bounce message and post them that would help a lot.
