Once you hit Send, it's on its way and likely before you have the chance to even think about it, it's been delivered to the target user's inbox. That doesn't mean they have seen it yet, but it's there waiting for the to open/retrieve it. There is no recall mechanism in the standard protocols used for Internet email. Some proprietary systems, like Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes, have recall mechanisms for messages sent to other users on the same system, but even then it doesn't always work.
Maybe your brother doesn't like surprises?
