server name cannot be found/cannot logon to outgoing mail server

hi, i put a new router in today (cisco ea2700).  internet connection is fine, but outlook is having trouble getting comcast mail.  i can log in from the web.

the error is server name cannot be found

and on the test page - cannout logon to outgoing mail server.

hopefully this is something easy i'm missing.  i haven't changed any outlook settings and was picking up mail this morning before i went to get the router

Re: server name cannot be found/cannot logon to outgoing mail server

Please post:

 - the exact Outlook error message

 - the outgoing (sending) server name (should be smtp.comcast.net)

 - the outgoing (sending) port number

 - whether authentication is enabled

 - whether SSL is enabled

 - a traceroute (or tracert) to smtp.comcast.net

Re: server name cannot be found/cannot logon to outgoing mail server

i would love to give you that info, but i've been altering those settings based on forum replies and various help forums, and i don't remember what it was in the first place.  as people have pointed out, since i was using outlook 2003, and it's 2012, i could upgrade.  that is the plan now.
