Installing Adapter with TV/VCR/DVD of different ages

Hi,

 

I have a DVD player from the mid 1990s, a TV from about 2000 and a DVD player from 2008. They were hooked together by my roommate's boyfriend four years ago. I am looking at the adapter's guidelines and looking at the multiple cable connectors and I can't figure out which one of them to connect the adapter's coaxial to and whether or not I am going to have to give up on the VCR in order to get the whole thing to work.

what is this adapter??  what is it supposed to do?  Does it have a brand name and model number?
