Start with the basics.
Check all connections. Make sure the speakers are firmly plugged into the port. Make sure they are plugged into the correct port. If they have a power cord check to see if that is firmly plugged into the outlet.
Are they turned on? (you would be surprised at the number of people who don't have them turned on).
Make sure they are not muted or the sound is turned down by clicking the sound icon in your system tray.
If everything listed above is okay do the following:
Start Menu/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Device Manager.
Look under Sound, Video and Game Controllers. You should see your sound device listed. Is there any type of symbol next to it?
Are you using on board sound (through the motherboard) or a separate sound card?
Have you made any changes to your computer since the sound last worked?
Please post the name of your device which is listed in Device Manager.
Also post the manufacterer/model number of your computer.
