Can't connect router to my modem

Hello,

Set-up:

I have cable, iternet and phone all thru Comcast which also supplied my Arris TM502G modem.

I am now trying to connect my recently purchased Belkin router.

The ultimate goal is to hook up a Roku video streaming device which supports Netflix.

Problem:

The modem I have only has one internet connection which now goes from the modem to my home PC.  How can I hook up the router which needs internet connection with the modem?  I apologize for this question but I’m new to all this technical stuff and need serious help!

Thanks for your support.

Re: Can't connect router to my modem

Power down Modem, Router and PC

Hook the Router to the Modem using the existing Ethernet cable.

Hook the PC to the Router using the new ethernet cable that came with the router.

Power up the modem and let it stabilize

Re: Can't connect router to my modem

Since you have an Arris modem, you will need to use a ballpoint pen or a toothpick to reach into the small hole on the back of the modem and depress the Reset Switch.  Hold the switch down untill all lights except the power light etinguish.

This will cause the Modem to recognize the Routers MAC address.
