Cannot access internal company web-pages when connected to the router

[ Edited ]

Hi!  I have an odd connection issue when trying to connect to internal company URLs.  My equipment:

-Motorola SB6160

-Apple Extreme Basestation

-Dell Latitude D430

When I connect to my company VPN via wireless, I can see all my internal company URLs, but when I connect the Dell directly into the Apple router, the VPN connects and everything works perfectly, EXCEPT for my internal company webpages.  Odd...

At first I thought this might be an issue with the Apple router, but connecting directly to the Motorola SB6160 yields the same result.  Borrowed a friend's Netgear router and got the same result.

I don't think it's a Comcast setting, so it must be something at the Motorola router.

Re: Cannot access internal company web-pages when connected to the router

I don't see how this could be an issue with the modem. It can't tell whether you're connecting to the AEBS wirelessly or wired. As far as it's concerned, everything is just coming from the router.

I suspect it's an issue with the configuration of the VPN software, it works correctly when using WiFi, but not Ethernet.

When you try to access the internal web pages, what happens? Does it just time out, or do you get a more specific error?

Is there possibility that the working wireless connection is through a neighbors Wireless Router? Have you set up Wireless Encryption with a unique SSID? Is your Wireless Encryption connection via your unique SSID?

Re: Cannot access internal company web-pages when connected to the router

Thanks for the replies:

-The error is page not found.  The URLs all have a prefix starting "NWW..." vs. "WWW..."  VPN having a different setting for wired vs. WIFI?  Interesting, I checked and the VPN software doesn't have any setting for this.

-I'm sure I'm not connecting to another wireless.  I double-checked that.

Another interesting thing is that I have a proxy on all my browsers that is locked down by Corp.  I can't get any web pages without being on the VPN.  Yet, it's only internal web sites that are shut down

Does the NWW prefix work on the wired connection but not the wireless?

Post your ipconfig /all output when connected via wireless AND ethernet when the VPN is ACTIVE.  What VPN client are you using?  What version of Windows?

Grito here again (logged in under my dad's account by mistake)

- NWW only works via wireless

- Won't work from home again until Friday.  Will post the IP then.  Using Nortel for the VPN. The Dell is running Windows XP.

Can you ping the proxy server?

Does your proxy setting use a proxy.pac script? Maybe it's only enabling the proxy server when you're connected wirelessly.

What VPN software are you using?

Have you asked your corporate IT department about this?
