Connection Speed Test

Just moved to a new house and went with the Comcast bundle for TV, Internet, and Phone. So far our phone service does not work at all. It is a brand new house prewired for everything and we can't get a dial tone. The internet comes and goes and seems very slow at times.  I just ran the connection speed test and had less than 2 Mbps on the download speed.  When the ad says download speeds up to 30 Mbps I was kind of expecting speeds on the side closer to 30 rather than the side closer to 0. Here's my results...

I have an Arris TG862G and it is upstairs near the center of the house.  I am sitting downstairs in the living room of a 2200 square ft. house.  At my old house we used our own router with the old comcast cable modem and had speeds a lot faster than this. The distance from the router was roughly the same, but it was a single story home.

So, I'm wondering if I should go back to using my own router and will that help with my wireless connection speed issues?
