Is the modem device already provisioned for service by Comcast ? Do you have a separate cable modem and a separate router or is it one of those combo gateway units ? It would be impossible for you to see the router device's user interface to configure the settings without a computer. Unless you mean if you can configure the wireless settings via a wireless connection. If so, it is always recommended that you configure the router settings via a wired ethernet connection.

Are you asking if you can set it up wirelessly through a notebook, for example?

2 different questions here.

You absolutely should initially set up your internet through a wired connection.  You want to test the speed, etc. with no extra inter-action from a router...(I hope you aren't using a wireless gateway)

Now, once you have established that your internet connectivity is where it should be, you want to set up the router.

Traditionally, you want/need to set up a router through a wired connection initially, however, based on the router, that may no longer be true.

The Linksys E and EA routers can be set up from the get-go wirelessly.  That's how I set my EA4500 up...and it was a piece of cake.

The problem with trying to configure a router with a wireless computer is that if you mess up the WiFi settings, you lose the connection to the router. So you have to reset the router back to defaults and start over from scratch.

Used to be the case, for sure.  With Linksys Easy Connect, it would be pretty difficult to mess up...it really is that simple a process.  I used to only set up networks directly through the router's web page...now I run Easy Connect, yet still have the flexibility to fine-tune the settings as I wish.
