Internet Speed - Extreme 250

I have had disappointing speed issues with the new service, Extreme 250.  I have a new laptop and Asus router capable of far faster speeds than 250.  When I hardwire my laptop to the new modem/router, I downloaded at 288 Mbps.  When I connected to the Comcast router built into the modem, on the 5 Ghz channel, I downloaded at 23.11 and uploaded at 19.28 mbps.  When I then connected to my Asus router, I downloaded at 67.76 and uploaded at 28.74.  Tests were all performed on the xFinity speed tester and were performed right after the other. When the system was first installed, I pulled as high as 99 mps download speed, but it has gradually tailed off during the past two weeks.  At one time, we had download speeds of 130 mbps off my personal router.  Suggestions?

Are all ports on the router Gigabit Ports?

Are you still using Category 5 ethernet cables?  Many folks have moved up to Category 6 cabling.

Re: Internet Speed - Extreme 250

Not sure why or how, but my download speeds this afternoon range between 276 Mbps and 281 Mbps, on my wireless network.  That is using an ASUS RT-AC68R dual-band gigabit router.  If this remains consistent, I have no complaints, at all!

Thanks for the thoughts on Cat 6, as had not considered that.  If current speeds continue, I'm not going to worry about it.

Cat6 is absolutely not required for 250mb. Cat5e is rated to Gb so the cable is not your problem.

How did you get the 250mbps service? And how much does it cost?

Re: Internet Speed - Extreme 250

It needs to actually be available in your local area. You would be better served by calling 1-800-comcast and asking a rep about its availability and its price. Three month old thread now closed.
