If you reset the gateway to default settings, you must reconnect the laptop and iPhone to the gateway's wifi network using the default settings, which should be on a sticker on the device. If the values don't work, then you can call the gateway support folks at 800-363-2416 and have to set the values to something you know.
Better yet, have them place the gateway into bridge mode and just get your own wireless router. The SMCD3GNV is a real piece of junk.
