Speed cut in half when connected to router with hard wire verses direct to modem.

Help!! When I connect my computer directly to the cable modem and do a speed test I get about 50 down and 10 up. When I connect to my linksys 4 port router with an ethernet cable I get about 25 down and just a bit less then 10 up? Why would my router cut my download by half? Help!! Thanks in advance to all that can help.

That router is a dinosaur and can't deliver those speeds wirelessly with it being only "G" capable. You need to update it to a more current wireless "N" preferably a dual band capable model. It will also have a faster processor and more horsepower for wired ethernet connections as well.
