Hi all, i have a net gear CG814wg v2 wireless router. I sadly still use windows XP. I had the router encrypted and cannot find the encryption anymore. I want to reconnect my ipod and other things to the wireless connection. However, i do not have the password.
I tried going to the basic router ip. the only one that works is that 192.168.0.1. However, it still asks me for my user name, and password and then says "the site says comcast home networking" i tried my comcast id and the password that i have to use to log into anything on this comcast site, but those don't work. I tried all the basic things like admin, password, etc etc and none of those have worked either.
It seems to me that i should be able to get to this site without a password, isn't this where you go to see the basics of the router and reset its password/encryption?
How can i reset this password and username so i can get in and reset everything? or.....can i somehow just start a new wireless network? if i remember correctly, i had to put in this IP to start the first wireless network, so starting a new one wouldn't work cause i cant get to page 1.
Thanks for your time!

I tried this, but i will try it again, maybe i didn't hold it down long enough. After i tried to reset, i did notice that my ipod no longer recognized the name of my old wireless network, but recognized the "customer id" that i had on there until i set up my network. I will try again and get back whether it worked or not.

i just tried the reset, where you unplug, hold the reset, plug back in and hold for 20 seconds. Router appeared to reset. But when i go to 192.168.0.1 it still asks for the same thing. Netgear says its default username is admin, which i put in and the passwords are either "password" or "1234". Tried both and neither worked. any other suggestions?

If that router was supplied by Comcast, the default username/password are comcast/1234

AHA! finally got it. Thank you sir! Hopefully i should be able to take it from here.

O.P. Also be advised that that device has been classified as being "end of life" as of 3/09 on their Approved Modems List;

it's working now, what does "end of life" mean? meaning it should have fried by now? or meaning it's not as fast as it should/could be? or meaning that comcast just wants me to buy another modem off them?

All except for your last remark. You may want to think about upgrading to something more current sooner than later as you may be in for an unpleasant surprise. At any time, an EOL config file could be sent to it and it would no longer function on the CC system. And if you do decide to upgrade, stay away from these all in one gateway devices and get a separate and dedicated straight cable modem and your own separate high quality router.

I have the same problem as you all have had. I have tried all the passwords I can think of as well as all the default information you have given. Nothing. Anything else you can think of is welcomed! ![]()

I have lost the login/password I created for the SMCD3GNV wireless router supplied to me through Comcast. When I go to the device login site, the default login/passwords fail. I tried the reset button-and also disconnecting the power cord, pushing reset-plug power cord back in-hold reset then let the router reboot ...method. Still the default login/password of admin/password won't work. I also tried comcast/1234 and failed. What do I do now?

The correct reset procedures for that device are on this page:
http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/inter
It is a simple hold of the reset button for at least 15 seconds.
It's not clear from you post if you tried exaclty that. A brief press of the reset button does not reset the passwords, and your push reset/powerbutton dance may not be achieving anything either.

I have lost my password on my modem that I have had since last year. Is there any other way than reseting it all? I have several devices set up on it already and do not want to go through and redo them all.....I tried to get into the Default Gateway but the passwords do not work
