I have a comcast arris 722 telephone modem and then bought and set up a netgear N600 wireless router to connect to it. I could not get internet access on any computer, and after talking to netgear help I had to statically assign dns servers 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1, this seems unusual that it could not find the dns servers automatically from the comcast/modem. Is this what has to be done to connect a router to comcast modem?
Any time you connect a new device, you have to powercycle the equipment, simply press the recessed reset button on the back of the modem, wait for it to reset, then disconnect the power to the router and reconnect, and restart the computer.
(if you have the router set to DHCP you should be fine, no need to change the DNS settings)
