Your problem is likely not the router, but the cable modem. Since you have CDV, you must have an eMTA, which means it has a battery so simple power cycling does not reset it properly. Disconenct your router from the modem, and then press the Reset/Reboot button on the rear of the device. On many models it's just a pinhole, so use a toothpick, paper clip, etc to press it.n Hold the button until the lights on the front go out, then release the button.
After the modem is reset, reset your router to factory default settings (to clean up whatever was done previously), and run through the setup again. With Comcast, the default WAN setp is sufficient, but you do need to go and change the router password, setup wireless security, etc.

I was unable to find a reset button but am able to take the plug out ad then remove the battery on the modem. The router of course has a reset button. I have reset it no less than 5 times. I tried to let the router use all Dynamic setting but that didn't work. I then put the ip address and all that in the router. My xp machines show a excellent connection, my vista machines show limited connection, and my only Win7 machine says limited. When I open IE I get nothing but a diagnostic button that tells me there is a loss of connection between the modem and router..
Am I missing a reset button on the modem? This is a Arias phone, modem, thing.

I have no problem getting a netgear wrn2000 to work with an Arris tm702g eMTA (Data / Voice) modem.
Go to the router's homepage, which is http://192.168.1.1 The default login is admin for the user and password for the password. You can change this in the set password screen once you log in.
In the routers Basic Settings screen choose NO for "Does your internet connection require a login?". Choose Set Dynamically from ISP under Internet IP address, then Choose Get Automatically from ISP under Domain Name SErver (DNS) Addresses.
Now the reset button on the Arris modem is very small and it's on the back where the ports are. I forget exactly, but if I remember correctly it might be somewhere between the phone ports and the Ethernet port. I push this with the end of a pen. It's recessed, so you really have to get in there. If you hit it right, all the lights on the front of the modem will go off, and then only the first light will come on. It will take a few minutes and you'll see the lights do their dance. Once they all go steady, see if you can access the internet through your Netgear router. If not, power cycle the Netgear router. What I mean by that is take the power off of it for 30 seconds, and then plug the power back into it.
Keep in mind if you when you reset the Arris modem, you will not be able to make or recieve phone calls. If you get any phone calls, they will end up in your voice mail. So do this if no one in your house is using the phone at that point in time. The other thing you could do to reset the Arris modem is pull the power off of the back of it, and in the bottom there is a door you can open to take the backup battery out. However it's easier just to find that little reset button and push it with some kind of instrument.
Hope this helps!

Never hard code an IP address into the router, configure like cypherx has posted, Comcast requires your router use a simply DHCP connection. This is the default state of the router after a reset and does not require any extra on your part to work.
There must be a Reset button on the back of the Arris. You don't say what model you have, so I've included a picture of the commonly used TM502 series. This is an image from the manual, on the TM502A or B model, it's labled "E", on theTM502C, it's labled "D" (the TM502C has no USB port).

Other Arris models have a similar setup, simply take a slim object like a toothpick (Arris recommends using something non-metallic), insert and press the recessed button. When you do the lights will go off on the front, so if they don't, you know you missed it.
