I recently had a situation where I could send but not receive email on my iMac using MacMail. After spending a lot of time with a comcast rep verifying all the settings in mail preferences without success I went to the Apple store and worked with a technician there. The problem was solved in about 5 minutes by deleting the comcast email account and then opening a new account with the same name, settings and password as the deleted account.
