No. It doesn't work that way. The modem talks to a T.O.D. (Time Of Day) server.

Modems default to that 1970 date when for whatever reason they temporarily lose contact with the TOD server. This can happen after a deliberate powercycle operation as well. It eventually re-handshakes with the server.
